While it feels like Sebastian Vettel has completely and utterly dominated the 2013 Formula One World Championship, it was comparatively close up until the summer break. At that point, Vettel was 38 points ahead of the competition. Since then, he’s won every single race. That includes Sunday’s running of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.
Sunday Link-Off: All It’s Cracked Up to Be
It’s the end of another week… or is it the beginning of a new one. That’s the problem with North America and Europe disagreeing on whether Sunday or Monday starts a week. Anyway, it’s Sunday which means that it’s time for the links. Let’s start with Rachel Mortenson.
Funny story, after the Lisi fella was arrested, a co-worker asked if I actually thought the Rob Ford crack video existed. He thought it was all fake. Well, the Toronto Police Chief says he was wrong. (Toronto Star)
And Mayor Ford also called into a news talk radio show under a pseudonym to defend himself. Smart move. (Boing Boing)
Meanwhile, in federal government, Prime Minister Harper isn’t responsible for anything going wrong in Parliament… Unless he is to blame. (National Post)
Entertainment Link-Off: In Darkness
Folks in North America can enjoy the sci-fi actioner Ender’s Game while here in Australia, Thor: The Dark World is out!!! In the film, you’ll catch Jaimie Alexander reprising her role as Sif. The film has a nice balance of action and comedy. It’s worth checking out. Anyway, let’s kick off this ELO with Jaimie’s latest photoshoot with Esquire.
After the jump, there may be some Thor connections to an upcoming episode of S.H.I.E.L.D., the new X-Men trailer is out, a potential spin-off for How I Met Your Mother, check out The Simpsons opening credits (Hobbit style) and a hilarious look at the size difference between Chris Hemsworth and Natalie Portman. Football Manager 2014 Review: Manage It Like Ferguson
It’s not exactly a great season to be a Manchester United fan. I know Sir Alex hand-picked David Moyes as his replacement but 8th in the table after a quarter of the season isn’t what you expect from United. Surely anyone could do better with this squad.
And that’s the premise behind Sports Interactive’s Football Manager series. Not everyone sees themself as the big hero on the pitch as you see in the FIFA series. FM is for the guy who has a couple of beers with his mates and says “I could do a better job running the team than that fool.”

F1 Power Rankings: Abu Dhabi Grand Prix
Well, the season isn’t over but it may as well be. Sebastian Vettel is the World Drivers’ Champion for the fourth consecutive season. Red Bull is the World Constructors’ Champion for the fourth time. The only thing not settled is who’s going to finish 2nd. So who do I have making a late run? Find out in this week’s Power Rankings.
Wednesday Link-Off: Do as I Say, Not as I Do
You know, I almost forgot that I had to do the links for today. I’ve spent the last couple of days playing WRC 4 for review and WWE 2K14 just for fun that was slightly distracted. Well, we’re here now so I might as well occupy part of your morning. So let’s start with Camille Rowe.
It’s highly unlikely that Hilary Clinton won’t run for president but if she doesn’t, who will step up as the Democratic nominee. (Washington Post)
American education has a reputation for being poor but benchmark testing shows that some of it is fairly good but other states have terrible education. (The Atlantic)
European leaders are upset that the Americans are spying on them. So why are they shunning NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden? (Tech Dirt)
Facebook Fails of the Week
Every so often, we look at the most spectacular fails that the internet has to offer. Well today, we look at the most spectacular fails that Facebook has to offer. This week, we have five of the best fails Facebook has to offer.
F1 Indian Grand Prix: A Coronation
Nobody came into this weekend’s Indian Grand Prix expecting anything other than the end result. I don’t necessarily mean the win for Sebastian Vettel though that wasn’t a surprise. No, I mean that no one was particularly surprised that Vettel was able to easily clinch his fourth consecutive Formula One World Drivers’ Championship with a win and a surprising non-points finish for Fernando Alonso.
Entertainment Link-Off: Let the Games Begin
Sorry for the delay. Between working full time and checking out an epic Yellowcard throwback concert, I found little time to sit down and work on the ELO this week. On the bright side, I did finally get around to it and huge thanks to Steve for working out a swap. Bad Grandpa is taking over the box office at the theatres this weekend, but it might be noteworthy to check out The Counselor where you get to see Cameron Diaz get off on the car windshield.
Anyway, after the jump, that Chinese Food song makes the Billboard Hot 100, get the 42 track Arrested Development soundtrack, and check out an awesome Disney medley. Continue reading
Saturday Link-Off: Fashionably Early
Hello there. Jackie and I have traded timeslots for the weekend. I’ve got a rare Saturday set of the Sunday links… If that makes any sense. Jackie will have the ELO tomorrow.
In the meantime, let’s start today’s links with Brazilian model Gracie Carvalho.
Critics say that Obamacare is a failure so far because people are having troubles signing up and signups aren’t as massive as they could be. An analysis of Massachusetts’ similar system suggest that slow-ish early adoption is par for the course. (The New Republic)
Sticking with the ACA, it looks like the biggest critic of the rollout that President Obama has right now is Jon Stewart. That’s not a name that you were expecting. (Washington Post)
The ACA rollout could also cause more problems for and with the Democrats in the near future. (Next New Deal)
