Here at Lowdown HQ, we’re huge fans of Star Wars. Naturally, when we see something as completely awesome as this, we’re obligated to post it. British illustrator Wayne Dorrington has retold Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope using only icons. Continue reading

Worst of Music: Kelly Clarkson – Mr. Know It All
What does it say about your career when the high point of your popularity after you finished up your stint on that reality show that launched your career is when Steve Carell yells your name during the chest waxing scene of 40-Year-Old Virgin? I’d ask Kelly Clarkson but she’d probably let her video for her new single speak for her seeing as it’s sort of a “fuck you” video. But a bad video doesn’t get you the WoM. You win the Worst of Music award with a bad song. Fortunately for us, Kelly has one with Mr. Know It All. Continue reading
Entertainment Link-Off: A Train Wreck
I’ve drawn in to cover the entertainment beat for Jackie this week. Unfortunately for you guys, I didn’t remember until this morning that I was supposed to do this post. Anyway, Jackie would normally start by talking about this weekend’s new movies but your options are Tower Heist which looks Razzie-worthy and Harold and Kumar 3D which looks awesome. Unfortunately for the ladies, I’m not going to lead this post off with the great NPH. So let’s kickoff with the leading lady of last week’s big release, The Rum Diary, Amber Heard.
Today in ridiculously odd and disturbing celebrity news, the A-List director who masturbated while eating shrimp in front of Olivia Munn that she noted in her autobiography came forward. It’s the intelligence destroying Brett Ratner. (Film Drunk)
After the jump, career ending performances, Eddie Murphy’s career arc and Trebek tells you to suck on it. Continue reading
Halloween Music: The Best Tunes For October 31
For the second week in a row, we’re changing up the Monday music post. This week, we’re featuring some music that are absolute musts on your Halloween playlists. This is something we touched on slightly on the first episode of the radio show on October 30, 2007, when we played the Monster Mash. But there are quite a few good Halloween songs for you to play today. Continue reading
Entertainment Link-Off: Time Is Money
It’s Saturday night, so you know what that means! It’s ELO time! In theatres this weekend is the animated flick Puss in Boots. Alternatively, there’s the sci-fi actioner In Time starring Justin Timberlake and Amanda Seyfried. So let’s just start this all off with the leading lady from the latter film shall we?
After the jump, some Mission Impossible 4 stuff, DC really underpaid for Superman, a few tidbits on horror movies, Freddy Krueger takes on Jason again, Johnny Depp is angry at Ricky Gervais and congrats to Wong Fu Productions for hitting 1 million subscribers on Youtube. Continue reading
Weirdest of Music: William Shatner – Bohemian Rhapsody
Usually, I talk about the week’s worst song in this post. However, I couldn’t bring myself to calling this week’s WoM winner the Worst of Music. So I’ve changed the WoM for this week to the Weirdest of Music. William Shatner is an absolute legend. He’s an award-winning actor and best-selling author. But he’s also made a splash as a spoken word artist. While he’s had utter flops like his covers of Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds and Mr. Tambourine Man, he had also done amazing covers of Rocket Man and Iron Man. However, his latest single is too odd to classify as good or bad. That’s why it’s our first ever weirdest of music. It’s the Shatner version of Queen’s Bohemian Rhapsody. Continue reading
Entertainment Link-Off: Laugh at the Face of Danger
Time for the Entertainment Link-Off once again. This weekend at the movies, you can catch the horror flick Paranormal Activity 3. Alternatively, there’s also The Three Musketeers 3D. Better yet, for comedy fans, Rowan Atkinson is back as Johnny English in Johnny English Reborn. I had a chance to see this flick a month back and I have to say, despite the rather predictable plot, the film was good for its physical comedy. Oh it also helps that Rosamund Pike is in the movie too!
After the jump, Hungary has a bizarre way of financing films, David Fincher doesn’t want the world to see Scarlett Johansson naked, iPhone can make good quality videos, some sequel news, catch the new music video from pop group Girls’ Generation and a nice little video on getting friend-zoned! Continue reading
Worst of Music: Rihanna – We Found Love
Getting named the sexiest woman in the world by any of the major publications that feel obligated to make such a claim is making yourself a target. Rihanna is no exception. Those lists are historically catastrophically wrong. Just because Rihanna wears little clothing and has made a habit out of crotch grabbing during her concerts doesn’t mean she’s sexy. It means she’s closer to slut than sexy. However, her antics and awards have helped propel her latest single up the charts. That doesn’t make her immune from winning this week’s Worst of Music award for We Found Love. Continue reading
Entertainment Link-Off: The Thing Becomes You!
It’s a good weekend if you’re feeling a little retro. For those into something a bit lighter, there’s the Footloose remake starring Kenny Wormald and Julianne Hough. Meanwhile on the other end of the spectrum is the paranoia filled sci-fi horror flick prequel The Thing starring Mary Elizabeth Winstead! It’s also quite appropriate to start off with something from her latest photoshoot with Esquire.
After the jump, the red band trailer for American Reunion, NBC’s Community is one of the smarter comedies you’re not watching, Drive is making people do bizarre things, The Thing: The Musical and a Voltron related short film hits the net! Continue reading
The Parents Television Council Is Full Of Shit: The Playboy Club Edition
Last week, NBC cancelled The Playboy Club after only three episodes due to low ratings. The Parents Television Council celebrated the move as it resulted in the end of a show that they considered to be inappropriate for network television. Despite the fact that the show aired beyond the watershed at 10:00 PM and its content was reportedly mild compared to what you’d find on premium cable shows at the same time of day, the PTC claimed victory for their moral elite.
But what the PTC right to launch a campaign against The Playboy Club before even watching an episode? I watched all three episodes, read all the PTC’s press releases and looked up the history of the real Playboy Clubs to find out. Continue reading
