Entertainment Link-Off: Get Peanutized!

daisy ridley hollywood reporterAfter a long wait, The Peanuts Movie is finally out! It’s also collecting fairly positive reviews, so it might be worth taking a trip down memory lane and channel your inner kid again. The other hotly anticipated release Spectre is garnering mixed results. Perhaps Skyfall just set the bar a little too high for the James Bond franchise. Anyway, let’s start off the ELO with Daisy Ridley, star of the upcoming Star Wars flick. She looks quite elegant in the latest shoot for The Hollywood Reporter. I can definitely see why the new trilogy would focus on her.

After the jump, China gets first dibs on Point Break, the Aaron Sorkin/Pixar flick that wasn’t meant to be, first look at the Harry Potter prequel/spin-off, some new trailers to check out including Warcraft, and check out a ‘deleted’ scene from Spectre. Continue reading

Doctor Who: The Zygon Invasion Review

doctor-who-the-zygon-inversion-headerThanks to giving out candy, I was late to the start of this week’s episode of Doctor Who. Thanks to the magic of a DVR, I was able to rewind to the start but I came in at the point where Clara was non-chalantly watching an abduction in a barely lit apartment. It was a pretty good scene to start on when you consider that it was aired on Halloween.

So was this week’s episode a proper Halloween episode? I’m not sure I’d go that far but I would say that it was a promising start to the Zygon two-parter.

Entertainment Link-Off: Fright Night

halston sage w magIt’s Halloween! Go out and put on your favourite costume and go Trick or Treatin’! Anyway, it is also a Saturday, so it’s time for another edition of the ELO! Fittingly enough, in cinemas this weekend is a b-horror flick to check out called Scout’s Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse. Reviews have been less than flattering but it does have Halston Sage in it! Good excuse to go see it.

After the jump, Star Wars is not yet approved in China, Guillermo del Toro is not giving up on Pacific Rim 2, human characters will always be interfering with future Transformers flicks, the emotions from Inside Out react to Star Wars and allow Stephen Colbert to predict what will happen in the galaxy far far away. Doctor Who: The Woman Who Lived Review

doctor-who-the-woman-who-lived-headerWhile Doctor Who is a sci-fi show that evolved out of something that was originally intended to be a science and history show, it’s always been at its strongest when it’s a character study. Just look at the difference between last week’s episode and this week’s. The Girl Who Died was largely a comedy episode. The Woman Who Lived was a study of Ashilder and the downside of immortality.

Entertainment Link-Off: The Battle Continues…

rose leslieI apologize. This week’s link off is a bit late. I just got back from vacation and sleep became my number 1 priority. I shall look into the issue of having the keyboard imprinted on my forehead in a minute. Anyway, The Last Witch Hunter is out and Vin Diesel is keen to launch another franchise. I wasn’t particularly compelled to see it until I saw Rose Leslie in it. Maybe she does have powers…

After the jump, Daniel Craig does not think highly of James Bond, no more high heels in Jurassic World sequel, Harry Potter is getting an eighth installment and Angels in the Outfield get a 30 for 30 treatment.  Continue reading

Doctor Who: The Girl Who Died Review

doctor-who-the-girl-who-died-headerThe Doctor Who and Game of Thrones crossover game was strong this week. We always have that connection between the two series because Jenna Coleman is dating Richard Madsen (Robb Stark). This week, we’re going back to medieval times and adding Maisie Williams (Arya Stark) as a Viking girl. Okay, it’s not quite a proper Doctor Who / GoT crossover but it’s probably as close as we’re going to get until Littlefinger shoves Clara out the Moon Door.

Entertainment Link-Off: Use the Force

taylor-swift-gq15-03bWelcome, my friends, to the show that never ends. Jackie might still be on his world tour but I’m here to cover the entertainment links this week. Of course, Jackie picked a good week to hand this over to me. There’s a kids movie (Goosebumps), two early Oscar bait movies (Truth and Bridge of Spies) and a del Toro movie (Crimson Peak) which is probably your best bet for the weekend. I actually think the first link of the day will be your big entertainment story of the week.

Along with that, we have a look at what’s happening with former NBA/reality TV star Lamar Odom, current and upcoming box office bombs and Taylor Swift’s personal life. Speaking of which, let’s kick off with Taylor Swift.

Doctor Who: Before the Flood Review

doctor-who-before-the-flood-headerFor the second story in a row, Doctor Who is a two-part episode. As much as I like the vintage style of a multi-part Doctor Who story, after the Dalek two-parter and this ghost story, I’m not sure that they’ve quite figured out the pacing yet.

Haven: Power Review

haven-boat-headerImmediately following the first episode of The Final Season™ of Haven, we got the 12th-last episode. With the town dealing with the fallout of even more Troubles, things are about to get a lot more interesting in Haven. And with this being Syfy’s 31 Days of Halloween, it wouldn’t surprise you if things get a little murdery in Maine.

Haven: New World Order Review

haven-title-card-bannerHaven is back for the home stretch. Over the summer, and not to many’s surprise, Syfy announced that they would be cancelling Haven at the end of the remaining 13 episodes of the double-length fifth season. New World Order is the first of what has been branded “The Final Season” of Haven. While I might be sad to see Haven go, the final episodes got off to a great start.
