F1 Hungarian Grand Prix: Demolition Derby

The Hungaroring isn’t one of the more passing-friendly circuits on the F1 calendar. It’s mostly turns with the occasional short straight to give you hope of a pass. However, the addition of DRS and a complete disregard for anyone else on the track has slowly turned the Hungarian Grand Prix one of the more exciting races on the calendar.

So we had a few crashes, a safety car, a total of nine penalty points awarded for four different incidents. The race could generally be described as chaotic. Well, except at the front where Sebastian Vettel took the lead off the lights and never looked back.

Sunday Link-Off: We Coming For You, Hulkster

arianny-celeste-solkissed15-01Well, this was certainly an interesting week in the world of news. I thought that I would be running the usual politics and news links. Instead, we’re talking about a man who admitted on video to being racist while everyone else says that it’s an isolated incident. I’m not sure what to believe but I’ll probably believe the guy who says “I’m a racist” on tape.

Anyway, it’s time for the Sunday links. Let’s stay sort of to theme with UFC ring girl Arianny Celeste.

So the big story of the weekend is Hulk Hogan’s n-word laden rant in his sex tape. (National Enquirer)

Hulk Hogan doesn’t have the best reputation in the wrestling world at this point. Even his apologies are probably questionable considering his history of lying. (Vice Sports)

Outside of downtown Toronto, nobody else is quite seeing the benefit of the Pan-Am Games. (Oshawa This Week)

F1 Power Rankings: Hungarian Grand Prix

While the death of Jules Bianchi weighs heavily on the grid, the drivers and teams of the Formula One World Championship are back in action this week as they go to Budapest for the Hungarian Grand Prix. While the Hungaroring is a dreadfully dull circuit that seldom provides action, there have been exceptions. At the very least, it gets us ready for Formula One’s summer break that will see four weeks between Hungary and Belgium.

NASCAR ’15 Review: Black Flag

nascar-15-headerThe most recent NASCAR game that I played prior to picking up NASCAR ’15 was EA Sports’ NASCAR 06: Total Team Control. Before and after playing that, I regularly played NASCAR Racing 2003 Season. NR2003 is over 12 years old at this point but it’s still considered the best NASCAR sim ever made and still has a fairly healthy community.

So when Dusenberry Martin Racing announced that they acquired the NASCAR license, I was pretty excited. Their leadership includes a veteran of those classic Papyrus Racing Games NASCAR games so I was hoping this would be a sign of good things to come from NASCAR ’15.

Then DMR mentioned that this year’s game was a carryover from previous license holders Eutechnyx who had already started development on NASCAR ’15 when they acquired the license. If you know the name Eutechnyx, you may recognize them as the developers of Ride to Hell: Retribution. Oh my.

Wednesday Link-Off: The Power of Editorial

alexandra-daddario-stndrd15-04So Gawker’s been raked through the coals for the Conde Nast story. What I don’t understand is how people are celebrating the editorial team leaving over the business team pulling the story. To me, it makes perfect sense. If editorial doesn’t get the final say over content, they can’t do their job and have to resign. It’ll sound somewhat ironic to most but Craggs and Read had to take a stand for the sake of their journalistic integrity. Few may be willing to applaud them but I will for that.

Anyway, it’s Wednesday so it’s time for us to do the Wednesday links. Let’s kick things off with Alexandra Daddario.

Gawker execs pulled the Conde Nast story from their website. As a result of business interest interfering with editorial, Gawker Media’s executive editor Tommy Craggs and Gawker.com editor Max Read both resigned. (Gawker)

Sunday Link-Off: Power and Politics (of Money)

It’s been a long week but I’m working on a few things in my offline life (not directly related to the ol’ 9-to-5) so I could either free up a whole lot of time for blogging and other extracurricular pursuits or magically lose it all. That doesn’t sound too mutually exclusive, does it?

Game of Thrones – Episode Four Review: Old Wounds

game-of-thrones-episode-four-headerAfter the last episode of Game of Thrones (A Telltale Game Series), I lamented the fact that it felt like the story was far too on-rails for my liking and that the Forrester clan were getting no hope spots in their continuing battle to save their House from being crushed by the combined forces of House Whitehill and the various Bolton and Lannister forces. While the latter doesn’t really change that much (it is a Telltale game after all), we finally see a glimmer of hope and a little comeback from Team Ironrath.

Given that we’ve been beaten down emotionally by Game of Thrones on TV and in the game, it was nice to have that little bit of hope.
