It might seem hypocritical of me to say this because I’ve noted many times that I hate hip hop music, but I love rap. I’m not a huge Kanye fan but I like his breakout hit song Gold Digger. Like most songs, cover versions don’t come close to matching the quality of the original. However, one particular cover reaches levels of suckage so high that it deserves special mention here. It’s the Gold Digger cover performed by the cast of Glee.

There’s nothing quite like the uninspired rap and hip hop stylings of white people. How many great white rappers can you name? Eminem… And that’s about it. None of the guys on the Glee cast are anywhere close to Kanye’s calibre on lead vocals and the Broadway stylings of the rest of the cast aren’t close to matching Jamie Foxx’s. The lyrics change for a family audience might be the funniest part of the song. They changed the original “But she ain’t messin’ with no broke niggas” to an inspired “But she ain’t messin’ with no broke-broke.” And I thought that the show jumped the shark after the Bieber episode. I think it jumped the shark during their first song.

So congrats, Glee cast. You’ve won the prestigious Worst of Music award for this week.
