It’s time for the weirdest and wackiest stories from around the world. It’s time for the Not News of the Week.
Even under intense public scrutiny, Silvio Berlusconi is still a ladies man. As a Christmas gift for the 24 female MPs and 13 female senators from his party, he’s purchased 37 “Italian tricolour” rings which cost $1,900. The rings are made of three bands of yellow, white and pink gold and studded with small diamonds. Silvio is a firm believer in the adage that diamonds are a girl’s best friend because he bought female MPs diamond studded crucifixes last year. As for the male MPs, their presents are still en route.
Two undertakers in Berlin are trying to tap into an underserved market when it comes to coffins. They’re trying to wedge into the gay market by selling coffins covered with images of nude men inspired by Italian Renaissance paintings. The coffin costs around $2,300 but they also sell a similarly decorated urn. If male nudes aren’t your thing, they also do coffins in rainbow colours. They also cater to the heterosexual market with custom designed coffin wraps.
Sometimes a man has to drink alone but what if he’d rather not but can get a hod of his usual crew? Well, a company in Ukraine has solved that problem by providing drinking buddies for hire. For only 150 Ukrainian hryvnias ($19 CAD), you can get your own drinking companion for the night. Your drinking buddy can come with any one of a number of talents from being well versed in politics and art to being able to play guitar and sing to being a licensed psychologist. Unfortunately for some customers, the buddies for hire aren’t well versed in certain extra-curricular activities because the company doesn’t want to be an escort service.
Speaking of drinking, an underage drinker in Connecticut showed exemplary dedication to the cause this past weekend. The 19-year-old was arrested just after midnight on Friday night / Saturday morning for driving under the influence and was taken into custody before quickly posting bond. Later in the morning, just before 4:00 AM, he was stopped a second time for DUI. It takes a strong liver to get two DUIs in a night but it takes something special to do that underage.
