A pair of game two’s were on the schedule yesterday. Anaheim and Carolina were both on the road and looking to even their respective series before heading home.
Anaheim 4 @ Detroit 3 (3OT) – This one was an absolute epic. Both teams kept going strong for 101-and-a-quarter minutes of hockey. Like most overtime epics, this one ended with a fluky goal as Todd Marchant scored a wrist shot over the glove of Chris Osgood. The fluky bit came as it looked like Osgood was partially screened by the sticks of his own defensemen. It wasn’t the only fluky goal of the game as a bouncing puck went off both of Brad Stuart’s legs and off the leg of James Wisniewski and in the net for the first goal. That was the Wings’ only lead of the game as they had to come back from being down by a goal twice. Jonas Hiller and Chris Osgood were the stars of the game making 59 and 42 saves respectively. Ryan Getzlaf led the Ducks offensively with a goal and two assists while Corey Perry also had a pair of helpers.
The series is tied 1-1
Carolina 3 @ Boston 0 – Cam Ward showed why he has a Stanley Cup ring and Conn Smythe trophy to his name. Ward made 36 saves to shut down the powerhouse Bruins and even the series at 1. Joe Corvo, Matt Cullen and Eric Staal each had goals for the Canes. Staal and Corvo also added an assist each. It was a fairly close game but Carolina seemed to a slight edge over the course of the game and especially in the early part of the game. This series started out the same way as the first round for Carolina, heading home with a 1-1 tie. Boston has to find a way to solve Cam Ward if they want to avoid New Jersey’s fate.
The series is tied 1-1
