Worst of Music: Pitbull – Don’t Stop The Party

When it comes to finding new songs for our semi-regular Worst of Music feature, I usually go to the Billboard Hot 100 charts. However, a barrage of ads for Pitbull’s new album, called Global Warming, convinced me that there’s a WoM winner on that album. That Worst of Music winner is Pitbull’s most recent single Don’t Stop the Party.

Regular readers know my usual issues with Pitbull are his lyrics and his rapping. While his rapping is usually makes his lyrics unintelligible, I can actually understand a fair amount this time. Unfortunately, it’s mostly about Pitbull saying how great his life is as if he’s saying his life is better than yours. In an interview, he said that he wanted this song to encourage people to look on the bright side of life. I think he missed the mark.

For once, I actually like the backing music in a Pitbull song. The salsa music feel of the backing music and beat really works. The problem is that when we reach the chorus, Pitbull goes so far out of tune that you wish he was rapping on top of an out of tune backing track that would match his out of tune vocals.

So congrats, Pitbull. You’ve won the prestigious Worst of Music award for this week.

Have a better WoM candidate for next week? Drop it in the comments.
