We might think that Christmas is a great time to turn on the radio and listen to some music. After all, the standard top 40 fare has to split airtime with Christmas music. Normally, anything that reduces the airtime that’s given to the likes of Rihanna, Lady Gaga, David Guetta and Pitbull would be a good thing. However, not all Christmas music is worth listening too. And that includes this classic song that wins a Christmas Worst of Music. It’s the Spike Jones Christmas classic All I Want For Christmas Is My Two Front Teeth.
We’ve all heard song before, I’m sure. What you may not know is that an elementary school music teacher wrote this song after noticing that most of his younger students were missing teeth and spoke with a lisp. The first professional recording of this song was by Spike Jones in 1948 when he was 37-years-old. Jones was trying to sound like a little kid missing a tooth but managed to sound like an old man missing most of his teeth. What we’re left with is a song where Jones painfully sings and whistles his way through the song until it mercifully comes to an end.
So congrats, Spike. You’ve won the prestigious Worst of Music award for this week.
