It was a short night on the schedule with only three games being played. Things got closer in two series while the third is now one game away from ending.
Boston 4 @ Montreal 2 – The 100th season celebration is on life support. Once again ex-Hab Michael Ryder scored the game winning goal, putting his former team on the brink of elimination. Montreal controlled the game early but could not keep a hold on the contest.
Boston leads the series 3-0
Washington 4 @ NY Rangers 0 – Heading into game 3, all the talk was about what Alex Ovechkin would be able to do. He only had a couple of assists but it was his backchecking that gave the Caps its first playoff win. It’s worth noting that Alex Semin scored two goals and had an assist. Lundqvist had an okay game stopping 36 shots but Simeon Varlamov had the shutout by making 33 saves. Their lead in the series might have been cut in half, but the Rangers are still in the driver’s seat as long as they can keep control mentally.
New York leads the series 2-1
Chicago 2 @ Calgary 4 – It looked like it would be another long night for Calgary after Chicago scored less than 3 minutes in. The Flames wouldn’t stay down last night for the first time in the series. Calgary scored 4 unanswered, including the last two by David Moss, to pick up their first win of the series. Miikka Kiprusoff stole the show for the Flames making 36 saves. While these two teams weren’t big rivals before the series started, it looks like things are degenerating between the two teams. Monday’s action was punctuated with 56 penalty minutes between the two teams.
Chicago leads the series 2-1
Tuesday’s schedule:
Pittsburgh at Philadelphia – Pittsburgh leads the series 2-1
Detroit at Columbus – Detroit leads the series 2-0
New Jersey at Carolina – New Jersey leads the series 2-1
Vancouver at St. Louis – Vancouver leads the series 3-0
San Jose at Anaheim – Anaheim leads the series 2-0
