Thank goodness the weekend is here again! There are a few releases in cinemas this week as Michael Bay’s 13 Hours takes on the comedy Ride Along 2 in hopes of challenging for the crown at the box office. Seriously though, are they really gonna top Star Wars? Meanwhile in Australia, I’m gearing up for the Australian Open on Monday, so I’m gonna kick off the ELO with fellow Canadian, Eugenic Bouchard.
After the jump, Oscar nominations are out, Pacific Rim 2 ain’t dead because of China, surprise Cloverfield-related trailer, and enjoy a Carpool Karaoke session with Adele.
Rough start to the entertainment biz in 2016. First was the surprise passing of music legend David Bowie. Now acting icon Alan Rickman has passed away as well after losing his battle to cancer. Let’s take a moment to remember the actor through some wonderful work he’s done over the years. (Slashfilm)
Looks like 2016 won’t be a better year for Marvel’s first family as Fantastic Four is getting shelved… at least for the time being. (Slashfilm)
The Oscar nominations are out and they’re showing a lot of love for Mad Max: Fury Road and The Revenant but there were still plenty of noteworthy snubs. Aside from the best supporting actor nod for Sly in Creed, what about the director Ryan Coogler or lead actor Michael B. Jordan? Heck, even Ridley Scott got ignored for his work on The Martian! (The New York Times)
On the other end of the spectrum, there’s the Razzies, as they show a lot of “love” for films like 50 Shades of Grey and Fantastic Four. (ABC)
Pacific Rim 2 may not be as dead as previously reported all thanks to China. (Polygon)
Now that’s an unlikely comedy duo. Tina Fey and Ronda Rousey are teaming up in Do Nothing Bitches. (Deadline)
Michael B Jordan is interested in returning as Johnny Storm in a future Fantastic Four film. Too bad the reboot tanked at the box office, so I’m not sure it’s gonna happen. (Collider)
Ridley Scott reveals that Alien: Covenant will be rated “hard R”. Get ready for lots of scary gory violence! (Collider)
Looks like The Collector won’t be appearing in the next volume of Guardians of the Galaxy after all. (Coming Soon)

CBS was called out for its lack of diversity but the current president of the network comes out to defend its diversity record. (The Wrap)
Heroes Reborn won’t be extending its run after the current season. So much for a soft reboot eh? (Entertainment Weekly)
American Idol is coming to an end but it doesn’t hurt to look back at how Kelly Clarkson helped legitimize the show as a career launching platform. (Uproxx)
Despite being busy with Legends of Tomorrow, Wentworth Miller and Dominic Purcell is officially returning for the event series followup to Prison Break on FOX. (TV Line)
That’s a wrap on the Assassin’s Creed flick! Time to look forward to the film’s release at the end of the year! (Hardcore Gamer)
Surprise movie trailer of the week. Here’s a first look at 10 Cloverfield Lane. Could this be some sort of sequel to Cloverfield? It is from Bad Robot after all…
Time for the latest edition of Carpool Karaoke. This time, the special guest is songstress Adele! Best part is when she is impressed with James Corden’s singing abilities.
With the help of Jimmy Kimmel, he’s is giving the X-Files a bit of an update from the 90s. At least this clip is funny. Sadly if you saw the early reviews for the X-Files revival series, let’s just say they were less than kind.
Kevin Hart is a cute little fluffy rabbit named Snowball in The Secret Life of Pets.
Maybe Michael Bay has learned his lesson from Pearl Harbor because 13 Hours is actually generating positive response. Anyway, Honest Trailers tackles the former and of course, does a wonderful job skewering the film.
