This week’s Worst of Music doesn’t come from the usual suspects on the Billboard Hot 100. Instead, it comes courtesy the producers of Canada’s New Year’s Eve show from Niagara Falls. The first act of the night was R&B turned dance singer Keshia Chante. Good Canadian artist seldom have any trouble getting a break in the US market. However, there’s a reason that Keshia hasn’t gotten into the US and that’s evidenced by her most recent hit song Table Dancer.
as seems to be quickly becoming the standard on the WoM, this song can be easily classified in the generic dance genre. It sound like there have been enough post-production tweaks to her voice that I could’ve sung the song and her record label just said it was her. Mind you, I wouldn’t be singing those awful lyrics. She sings about some connection between dancing on tables and romance. Well, in my experience, there are two types of women who dance on tables: Really drunk chicks and strippers. Since she wasn’t drinking in the video (in fact Wikipedia says there’s a Pepsi endorsement in the video), we have to assume she was the latter. In either case, embarrassingly drunk women and strippers generally aren’t considered relationship material unless said relationship’s length can be measured in minutes and hours.
So congrats, Keshia. You’ve won the prestigious Worst of Music award for this week.
