What does it say about your career when the high point of your popularity after you finished up your stint on that reality show that launched your career is when Steve Carell yells your name during the chest waxing scene of 40-Year-Old Virgin? I’d ask Kelly Clarkson but she’d probably let her video for her new single speak for her seeing as it’s sort of a “fuck you” video. But a bad video doesn’t get you the WoM. You win the Worst of Music award with a bad song. Fortunately for us, Kelly has one with Mr. Know It All.
The first thing that I noticed in this video is that Kelly has lost some weight. The tabloids have a field day with her yo-yo-ing weight and it looks to have gone down in time for the video shoot. At least her weight issues makes her a better role model than 99% of musicians out there now (including Lady Gaga). Anyway, the lyrics of this song repetitive to the point where I think she only wrote about four lines and just changed around some of the words to make a verse which all built into a song. That trademark big Clarkson voice is very subdued in this song that makes you think that this almost isn’t the same girl who won American Idle. And, to top it off, this song has absolutely no hook that allows it to be easily recognized. It’s very generic sounding to the point where I think it’ll get airtime on an easy listening station before the Top 40 stations.
So congrats, Kelly. You’ve won the prestigious Worst of Music award for this week.
