Worst of Music: Rihanna – We Found Love

Getting named the sexiest woman in the world by any of the major publications that feel obligated to make such a claim is making yourself a target. Rihanna is no exception. Those lists are historically catastrophically wrong. Just because Rihanna wears little clothing and has made a habit out of crotch grabbing during her concerts doesn’t mean she’s sexy. It means she’s closer to slut than sexy. However, her antics and awards have helped propel her latest single up the charts. That doesn’t make her immune from winning this week’s Worst of Music award for We Found Love.

The first thing I notice in this song is that I can’t understand what Rihanna’s singing. I can’t ever remember having that problem with any other WoM winner or song under consideration for the WoM. I’m not sure if that’s because of the after-effects (some heavy reverb) on her voice or the bad backing music. The music is worth special mention. The synthesized electric piano was annoying but that other synthesized shit thrown on top at parts is ear-bleedingly bad. And it’s definitely worth mentioning that the lyrics are repetitive. I’m not sure anyone put effort into this one.

By the way, remember that whole kerfuffle about the farmer complaining about Rihanna filming a music video on his land in little to no clothing? That was the video shoot for this song. Is she subliminally saying that Ireland is a hopeless place.

So congrats, Rihanna. You’ve won the prestigious Worst of Music award for this week.

Have a better WoM candidate for next week? Drop it in the comments.
