Worst of Music: B.o.B – Strange Clouds

I was fairly certain that the field for the 2011 Worst of Music award was set by this point of the calendar. Rebecca Black’s Friday and Pitbull’s Give Me Everything were the clear frontrunners with a half-dozen or so darkhorses with an outside chance. Well, the top two just got some company thanks to this week’s WoM winner. I thought the backing music was back but add in the atrocious lyrics and you suddenly have a song which contends for the worst of the year. This week’s WoM is B.o.B featuring Lil Wayne with Strange Clouds.

I find it a slight irony that B.o.B has two too many punctuations in his name while Lil Wayne seems to be missing one in “Lil.” However, being grammatically correct is just one of those things that these two don’t care about. These two put just as much effort into their lyrics. If you read and listen to the lyrics, this song comes as a collection of easy rhymes and pop culture references that don’t really mean anything. Rhyming vegetarian with Nancy Kerrigan? B.o.B and Wayne probably high-fived after coming up with that without realizing that it was a meaningless lyric that most youths who want to be black who would make up most of the listening audience wouldn’t get. And it just goes on like that for four minutes. I just can’t get through it in one go. It’s just one of the most painful songs I’ve ever heard. And I’ve listened to William Shatner cover Mr. Tambourine Man.

So congrats, B.o.B. You’ve won the prestigious Worst of Music award for this week.

Have a better WoM candidate for next week? Drop it in the comments.
