Entertainment Link-Off: Friendship Has Its Benefits

Steve said it best on Twitter last night when he tweeted “Every time I see an ad for No Strings Attached, I think it’ll cost Natalie Portman an Oscar the same way Norbit cost Eddie Murphy.” Perhaps it’s not such a good idea to kick off the ELO with her and her infamous laugh from the Golden Globes. Instead, let’s start with one of her co-stars Olivia Thirlby. The movie was initially titled Fuckbuddies. Perhaps that would have generated a bit more interest from the general public.

After the jump, a nice look at the opening credits for Scott Pilgrim, MTV landed themselves in hot water, Battle Los Angeles released some awesome viral marketing and a nifty Lost fan video that should please many fanatics out there.

No Strings Attached isn’t exactly getting rave reviews out there, but it could be a lot worse. It may not make a huge blip in Natalie Portman’s career, but it does highlight Ashton Kutcher’s free fall over the years. Here are 8 milestones in the devolution of Mr. Kutcher. (Movieline)

For Scott Pilgrim fans. If you’re looking for a nice read, here’s a small writeup on the art sequence from the film’s opening credits. Better yet, check out the link from this link for the full interview with Edgar Wright. (Slashfilm)

New tidbits on The Dark Knight Rises. Anne Hathaway is set to be Catwoman and Tom Hardy is going to play Bane. (Collider)

Don’t know who this Bane character is? Here’s a full backstory to the character. Who needs Wikipedia? (io9)

The Superbowl is quickly approaching. While most of us care more about the game itself, there are also those that care about the commercials. I tend to look forward to previews for upcoming film releases. If you’re interested as well, here’s a rundown of what you can expect to see on the big day. (The Hollywood Reporter)

Ricky Gervais did a fantastic job hosting the Golden Globes back on Sunday. He may have made a few extra enemies in Hollywood but who cares! His next gig won’t be hosting the Globes for a third time, instead he’ll be stopping by Dunder Mifflin instead. (NY Mag)

Parks and Recreation returned this week with fairly decent numbers thanks to The Office as the lead in. Castmember Aziz Ansari decided to drum up some interest for the show with a remixed version of the show’s opening theme… and it’s quite good. (College Humor)

MTV likes to push the envelope and this time it may have gone too far. Their remake of the hit British TV series Skins is now considered to be borderline child pornography. Actually scrap borderline, it is child porn. (NY Times)

God bless the US of A. Snooki of Jersey Shore wrote a book and it has cracked the NY Times bestsellers list. There is one redeeming point though, she didn’t hit number 1. No accounting for taste America. (Entertainment Weekly)

Battle: Los Angeles has launched a new website that’s worth a look. Once you reach the page, there will be an interactive map where you can see alien attacks all over the globe. From there at the bottom right corner where it says “Priority Access,” enter the film’s release date: 031111. Then it’ll lead you to another page filled with tidbits on the invading alien race. Ahhh viral marketing at its best. Kinda wish they had this for Independence Day! (Battle Los Angeles)

When the cast picture of X-Men: The First Class hit the net, it received very little fanfare from the public as many complained about how lame it looked. Turns out director Michael Vaughan hated the picture too! (Slashfilm)

It’s hard to top J.K. Simmons’ performance as J. Jonah Jamieson in Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man flicks, so how will the reboot tackle this character? Well apparently he won’t be appearing at all! (IGN)

Piers Morgan has a new talk show on CNN and he has a list of people banned from appearing on his show. Notable folks include Heather Mills, Madonna and wait for it, this will warm Steve’s heart… Howie Mandel! (Entertainment Weekly)

We don’t need a Bed Intruder reality show, but we’re getting one anyway. (The Wrap)

Kevin Smith’s Red State may piss off extreme Christian groups in the United States but the film may not go down because of them. Instead the film will fall to a bunch of football fans… well sorta. (Deadline)

Three more episodes of Friday Night Lights remain. This past Wednesday we saw the return of Tim Riggins! His portrayer, Taylor Kitsch, recently appeared on Stroumboulopoulos Tonight sans the lengthy hair and for FNL fans that missed it. Here’s an interview for you to watch… though there’s not much talk of FNL. (CBC)

And finally, let’s squeeze in an interview with Zach Gilford as he talks about his new show Off the Map. There’s is also talk of Friday Night Lights and FNL fans should be pleased with what he has to say. (The TV Addict)

Remember the man (Corey Vidal) that brought us the brilliant Star Wars Acapella? Well he’s back and this time, it’s a fan video that’s a tribute or perhaps a continuation to the series Lost. In fact it was shot on the actual set locations in Hawaii. The acting might not be the best, but it’s definitely worth a look.

There’s always a lot to see on Jimmy Kimmel’s late night talk show and this time, he does a duet with Ryan Gosling! Bonus points for getting Ryan to play the ukelele!
