Clear Eyes, Full Hearts, Can’t Lose!

It’s official!!! Friday Night Lights has been renewed for two more seasons!!!

This is probably one of the worst kept secrets in TV land, but the official word is finally out. NBC and DirecTV have worked out a deal to bring back the critically acclaimed show for a 4th and 5th season containing 13 episodes each. The deal is similar to the shared-window experience this year. DirecTV gets first crack at the show during the fall and NBC will air the show during midseason.

So what does this mean for the cast? Kyle Chandler, Connie Britton and Aimee Teegarden are expected to return as series regulars. Taylor Kitsch (Riggins), Minka Kelly (Lyla), Zach Gilford (Saracen) and Adrianne Palicki (Tyra) are expected to return to the show, but not as a series regular. This is fitting given that Minka Kelly signed on as the female lead in the CW pilot ‘Body Politic’ (perhaps this is a show to look out for this fall hmm?).

When the show first aired, we were all told that the high school characters will graduate and move on. The departure of certain cast members is expected. They will be missed. At least the show maintains that sense of realism, which is why FNL is such a fantastic show. Now let’s hope they introduce some interesting characters instead of a whiny teen like JD McCoy.

While we’re still uncertain what’s going to happen in front of the camera, there’s also uncertainly behind the scenes too! Executive producer Jason Katims is going to be looking over another NBC show called Parenthood this fall, while the series go-to director Jeffrey Reiner will be directing another NBC pilot called Trauma. Are these guys going to be able to balance FNL and their new projects? Well I certainly hope so!

Ben Silverman is definitely taking steps in the right direction. Now as long as he renews Chuck, he will definitely be a safe distance from the title of being the biggest dumbass TV executive.

So are you still tuning in to FNL sans the craziness of the Riggins brothers? Actually… I should be asking this: are you still tuning in to FNL sans the awesome eye candies known as Minka Kelly and Adrianne Palicki? Oh while I’m at it, let’s throw in a few pictures for your viewing pleasure.

Minka Kelly

Adrianna Palicki

While FNL is safe for another two seasons, don’t forget to tune in every Friday night at 9 pm on NBC (or E! if you live in Canada).
