Well, we’ve been trying something special with our coverage of the new format NHL All-Star Game. Let’s cap off our coverage with a statistical analysis of who would have won if our two teams had actually faced off. Our readers thought that Team Jackie would have dominated the action and left Team Murray in their dust. But let’s dissect the teams with some fancy maths to find out whose team was most likely to win the big game. Continue reading

2011 NHL All-Star Game Injury Replacement Mock Draft
It seems that our NHL All-Star Game Mock Draft was cursed before it was even posted. Over the last couple of days, five players have dropped out of the All-Star Game due to injury. Included in the injured players were some of the NHL’s biggest names including Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin and Jarome Iginla. In order to make our duel of the All-Star GMs fair, Jackie and I are drafting the replacement players.
How do our new teams shape up? Find out after the jump. Continue reading
NHL Power Rankings: Week 17
The NHL All-Star break begins today. We’ve finally reached what is colloquially known as the halfway point of the season. In reality, all teams have played at least 48 games at this point of the season. This doesn’t mean that the playoff picture is much clearer in either conference. For example, fourteen points is the difference between leading the Western Conference and being out of the playoffs. Despite how close the competition is, we have a repeat team atop the Power Rankings. Continue reading
2011 NHL All-Star Game Mock Draft
This year’s NHL All-Star Game has a unique new format that has been talked about quite a bit. This year, two team captains would get a chance to draft their own All-Star teams to play with. Now Jackie and I thought this sounded like a good idea so we decided to do our own All-Star Game mock draft. We’d alternate picks until we both had 21 man rosters like the real thing.
So how did our mock draft play out? Our draft results after the jump. Continue reading
NHL Power Rankings: Week 16
Every team has crossed the halfway point of their 82-game schedule but the standings are tightly packed. The fourth place team in the Western Conference has only a two-point lead on 8th. It’s parity like that in the NHL that causes the weekly NHL Power Rankings to move so much from week to week. For example, there’s another new team atop the rankings while teams have moves up as far as ten spots or dropped as many as seven positions in the rankings. Continue reading
NHL Power Rankings: Week 15
Another week, another set of the NHL Power Rankings. A new team sits on top of the Power Rankings this week. The Vancouver Canucks may be the hottest team in the NHL right now but a loss on Saturday night means I get to use one of my favourite Power Rankings rules on them. While the top five might have changed around, no team moved in or out of it. Continue reading
Ranking The NHL’s 2010-11 Third Jerseys
Every year, NHL teams roll out new jerseys to sell to make money from merchandise sales update the look of a franchise. Sometimes these jerseys are retro uniforms that are a throwback to the good old days of a team. Other jerseys are a completely new look for the franchise. Last year, I ranked the 23 third jerseys regularly used by NHL teams. With four new third jerseys rolled out this season, let’s take another look at the NHL’s best alternate jerseys. Continue reading
NHL Power Rankings: Week 14
The Winter Classic has come and gone but the NHL season still rolls on (just without HBO’s NHL 24/7). That may not be a good thing for the Penguins who continue sliding down the Power Rankings while the Caps move on up. However, for the second week in a row, the Vancouver Canucks are the best team in the league. Continue reading
Best Images of the 2011 Winter Classic
Since 2008, the biggest game of NHL season has been the New Year’s Day outdoor game called the Winter Classic. This year saw the Sidney Crosby and Alex Ovechkin rivalry renewed on the NHL’s biggest stage. The game was originally scheduled to be played in the afternoon but weather pushed puck drop back to Saturday night. The result was a great game that looked spectacular under the lights of Heinz Field. Here are some of the best images of this year’s NHL Winter Classic. Continue reading
NHL Power Rankings: Week 13
For the last time in 2010, it’s time for the weekly NHL Power Rankings. For the first time this season, a Canadian team tops the rankings and it’s probably obvious who it is. Meanwhile, ahead of the Winter Classic on Saturday (or maybe Sunday depending on the weather), the two teams are heading ever so slightly in opposite directions in the Power Rankings. Continue reading
