Every team has crossed the halfway point of their 82-game schedule but the standings are tightly packed. The fourth place team in the Western Conference has only a two-point lead on 8th. It’s parity like that in the NHL that causes the weekly NHL Power Rankings to move so much from week to week. For example, there’s another new team atop the rankings while teams have moves up as far as ten spots or dropped as many as seven positions in the rankings. Continue reading

The History of Olympic Logos
On New Year’s Eve, the organizers of the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, unveiled their official logo. After the debacle that was the unveiling of the one-eyed monsters of London Olympic mascots, I thought I saw the height of Olympic symbol ridiculousness. Some interpretations of this include a thong, two jockstraps, an ink blot test and three hostages tied together.
So just how ridiculous have past Olympic logos been? Let’s take a walk back through time as I examine the history of Olympic logos. Continue reading
NHL Power Rankings: Week 15
Another week, another set of the NHL Power Rankings. A new team sits on top of the Power Rankings this week. The Vancouver Canucks may be the hottest team in the NHL right now but a loss on Saturday night means I get to use one of my favourite Power Rankings rules on them. While the top five might have changed around, no team moved in or out of it. Continue reading
Ranking The NHL’s 2010-11 Third Jerseys
Every year, NHL teams roll out new jerseys to sell to make money from merchandise sales update the look of a franchise. Sometimes these jerseys are retro uniforms that are a throwback to the good old days of a team. Other jerseys are a completely new look for the franchise. Last year, I ranked the 23 third jerseys regularly used by NHL teams. With four new third jerseys rolled out this season, let’s take another look at the NHL’s best alternate jerseys. Continue reading
NHL Power Rankings: Week 14
The Winter Classic has come and gone but the NHL season still rolls on (just without HBO’s NHL 24/7). That may not be a good thing for the Penguins who continue sliding down the Power Rankings while the Caps move on up. However, for the second week in a row, the Vancouver Canucks are the best team in the league. Continue reading
Best Images of the 2011 Winter Classic
Since 2008, the biggest game of NHL season has been the New Year’s Day outdoor game called the Winter Classic. This year saw the Sidney Crosby and Alex Ovechkin rivalry renewed on the NHL’s biggest stage. The game was originally scheduled to be played in the afternoon but weather pushed puck drop back to Saturday night. The result was a great game that looked spectacular under the lights of Heinz Field. Here are some of the best images of this year’s NHL Winter Classic. Continue reading
NHL Power Rankings: Week 13
For the last time in 2010, it’s time for the weekly NHL Power Rankings. For the first time this season, a Canadian team tops the rankings and it’s probably obvious who it is. Meanwhile, ahead of the Winter Classic on Saturday (or maybe Sunday depending on the weather), the two teams are heading ever so slightly in opposite directions in the Power Rankings. Continue reading
NHL Power Rankings: Week 12
I warned you that I was going to do a gimmick edition of Power Rankings right before Christmas. This week, I look at the NHL’s Christmas wish lists. Every team wants something for Christmas but most deserve something completely different. We also have a new team on top of the rankings followed closely by their state rival. And a division rival of our top two teams finds its way back to last place. Continue reading

NHL Power Rankings: Week 11
Another week in the long, cold NHL season has come and gone. Not coming or going is the #1 team in the rankings. The Penguins’ winning streak ended at 12 games in a loss to the Philadelphia Flyers but they’re still the best team in the league right now. Mind you, none of the top three teams changed spots but I’m not convinced that the cream has risen to the top already. Continue reading
