Entertainment Link-Off: Miami Heat

Alight, so the dog days of summer movies has already started. This weekend, catch the vulgar alien invasion movie The Watch starring Ben Stiller and friends or perhaps you can check out another installment of the Step Up franchise starring Kathryn McCormick. I think I already made up my mind to see the latter.

After the jump, revisiting some of the stuff from The Dark Knight Rises, The CW tries to rebrand itself, a few movie trailers to check out and an awesome fanmade short for Y: The Last Man.

Revisiting the crazy rumours that floated around the interwebs prior to the release of The Dark Knight Rises. (Slashfilm)

Christopher Nolan is indeed stepping away from the Batman franchise. Have a read of his farewell to the Dark Knight. (Superhero Hype)

This side by side montage is another fun look at the lack of originality in Hollywood. Though I have to point out, the title for this clip is wrong as not all the films were released in 3D. (Funny or Die)

Good news! They’re gonna do a Despicable Me spinoff that features on the silly antics of the yellow minions!!! (Deadline)

After seeing all the concept art from the upcoming film Cloud Atlas, we’re finally getting some footage from the film. Check out the 5 minute trailer for the film! After you have watched it and is still thinking “WTF is going on?!” you’re probably not alone. (JoBlo)

We’ve been talking about how The CW has been an epic fail of a TV network, so now they’re rebranding themselves once again… sort of. (Deadline)

In addition to that, they might be bringing an adaptation of the Japanese flick Battle Royale to their network. For some odd reason, I have a feeling they’re doing this more for the fact that The Hunger Games draws some similarities to the movie rather than to express the actual meaning behind the story. Plus, with a violent topic like this, it’s safe to say the CW will be making a PG-lite version of BR. (LA Times)

So perhaps there are benefits to 3D cinema. A man who was stereoblind (has no ability to perceive depth in his vision), was somehow cured after watching Hugo in 3D. (BBC)

Not sure if Steve is happy to see this but the Twin Peaks quasi knock off The Killing has been canned by AMC. (TV Line)

The trailer for Life of Pi has finally hit the net. I gotta say, even without the 3D effects, the film looks absolutely stunning. Not sure how the actual film will play out, but if Ang Lee’s adaptation fails to hit the mark, at least it will be one attractive mess.

The popular graphic novel Y: The Last Man was meant to be adapted into a feature film, but it has been sitting in development hell for quite some time now. Looks like it’s another case of a fan film beating the Hollywood big boys to the punch. Take a look at this 20 minute short film.

The Olympics TV spot for Skyfall gives us a little glimpse on the action in the upcoming Bond flick.
