It’s Here! Mass Effect 3 Extended Cut Launches Now

It’s 5:00 AM EDT at Lowdown HQ. So why do I have a post going live right now? Because, per Mass Effect 3 producer Mike Gamble, XBox 360 users are able to flip on their systems and download the Mass Effect 3 Extended Cut DLC right now. Sorry, PS3 and PC players (like me). The 360 gets first crack while the rest of us have to wait.

SPOILER ALERT: If you haven’t played ME3 yet, there is one plot spoiler contained in Mike Gamble’s tweets. Also, please keep the comments a spoiler free zone. Us PC players and folks with full-time jobs will be waiting a while to play EC.

On Twitter, Gamble revealed approximate the launch times for the Extended Cut DLC. XBox 360 gamers can get the Extended Cut at 2:00 AM PDT (5:00 AM EDT). PC gamers will get it by noon Mountain time (2:00 PM EDT). PlayStation 3 players don’t have a set release time but rather “later in the day.” If I was to guess, I’d say that PS3 owners are SOL compared to the rest of us.

In other EC news, Mike Gamble also says that the threshold for the best endings has been lowered. Previously, it was limited to Shepards with an EMS of greater than 4,000. With Extended Cut, it’s been lowered to approximately 3,100 EMS. In my examination of the problems with ME3, I suggested that the high EMS threshold prevented pirates from seeing the best endings as they couldn’t go online to raise their Readiness Rating. So much for having a smart anti-piracy policy. However, it does mean they no longer penalize players who don’t play multiplayer.

I’m aiming to have a breakdown of ME3 Extended Cut inside the next week.
