Entertainment Link-Off: Alien Invasion Alert!

It’s time for another entry of the Entertainment Link-Off. This week marks a battle between aliens and werewolves! While most people would be heading out to see Battle: Los Angeles or Mars Need Moms, there would be some that would be interested in another retelling of Red Riding Hood starring Amanda Seyfried.

After the jump, Pokemon is still popular, Kevin Smith is off to a decent start to his Red State tour, a sweet mashup between The Fantastic Mr. Fox and Starfox, Charlie Sheen tries his winning recipe and another noteworthy Wong Fu Productions video to check out.

It’s been ages since the last time I watched Pokemon or even played a Pokemon game on a Nintendo Gameboy. The latest installment of the games on the Nintendo DS managed to sell over a million copies in its first day alone. How in the world did this remain so popular over the years? (Entertainment Weekly)

Kevin Smith is still sticking it to the dudes in suits at the big movie studios. He’s off to a fairly decent start with a 10th best per theatre average in his Red State tour. That being said, each ridiculously expensive ticket might be a factor in this. (Slashfilm)

In celebration of the release of Battle: Los Angeles, here’s a look at the memorable alien invasion flicks of the past. (Rotten Tomatoes)

While we’re on the topic of alien invasions, if those creatures do attack from outer space, perhaps these folks will be able to save us all. (JoBlo)

The trailer for Battle: Los Angeles might look promising, but turns out it’s a really really bad movie. (Yahoo)

If you thought a movie with a rushed script like Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen was bad… imaging how horrible Men In Black III will be since it started shooting without an actual script! (The Hollywood Reporter)

There are certain comedies out there that rely heavily on pop culture as a basis for their jokes. From The Simpsons to Community, they’re littered with tidbits that act as throwbacks to movies, other shows and whatnot. The question is, do these shows age well? Will it still be funny in 20 years? While some argue that these pop culture references are ‘dated’, others would say these references only add to the ever growing library of pop culture. Debate away. (Entertainment Weekly)

Kudos to 50 Cent for attempting the Christian Bale route to improve his dramatic chops. Sadly the trailer for his upcoming film looks really bad. (NY Mag)

Given the success of Transformers, it’s no surprise the next big robot franchise to hit the screens would be Voltron. Let the bidding war between the studios begin! (Screenrant)

According to Tina Fey, the difference between male and female comedians is that the men would urinate in cups or in jars. True story. (The New Yorker)

The new Twilight films Breaking Dawn Part 1 and 2 are going to cost Summit $263M. Seriously? What part of these films would actually lead to such a ridiculous budget? Oh right, the *ahem* actors. (The Wrap)

The new X-Men: The First Class posters look like an awfully bad Photoshop job. Think you can do better? Well one of the entries was quite hilarious. (io9)

Video game adaptations often don’t turn out very well, so rather than basing a movie on the game storyline itself, let’s put a bit of a spin to it. Imagine Wes Anderson directing a Starfox movie. Now you’ll get The Fantastic Mr. Starfox! (College Humor)

So Sheen’s Korner wasn’t exactly “winning”, so perhaps Charlie’s attempt at cooking would be much better…

Meanwhile “You’re So Hot” between Christopher Mintz-Plasse and Dave Franco is hilariously awkward.

Ending the latest Entertainment Link-Off with a more serious video. I’ve been a regular Wong Fu Productions follower since the good ol’ Yellow Fever days. Latest short from them isn’t a comedy, but it’s worth a look as it deals with the issue of second chances in relationships. For more on the video, take a look at the director’s comments.
