Mustang Athletics Adds Car To Fleet

Mustang Athletics announced their latest addition to their fleet of cars.  In addition to their Honda Fit, Mustang Athletics have procured a brand new Bugatti Veyron Grand Sport to add to their fleet of vehicles.  The $2.6 million hypercar is expected to strengthen the ability of Western Mustang sports teams to recruit top athletes into the program while increasing exposure in the community.

At a press conference, Mustang Athletics interim director Chuck Mathies said that growing the marketing power of the Mustangs is critical to the future success of all their sporting programs.  Outgoing UWO president Dr. Paul Davenport dismissed concerns that the spending was frivolous given the current economic climate.  Davenport stated that the benefits of the purchase would include more money from sponsorship and television contracts due to the increased interest caused by this novel purchase.  A member of the UWO faculty, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, was dismayed that the University would spend money on sports rather than increase promises of increased salary, pension funding, and research funding in ongoing faculty contract negotiations. Mathies and Davenport both said that the money actually came from the University Students’ Council increase in funding to the Mustangs. Mathies added that students would no longer get discounted tickets to homecoming and playoff games to cover costs of operating the new show piece.

Mustangs media relations director Andy Watson told me that this was a great day for the Western Mustangs.  He went on to say that this could garner the Mustangs more attention than making it to two national finals and a national semi-final in one season. He would not disclose who would drive the car or where it would be kept when not on display but hinted that it was an assignment that he would volunteer for.
