Worst of Music: Jessica Lowndes – I Wish I Was Gay

Today in learning something new everyday: I didn’t know that Jessica Lowndes was a singer as well as an actress. She’s not that bad a singer, even if she sounds a bit generic. So how does she try to make a splash in the music industry? By releasing a single that does a slight callback to Katy Perry’s I Kissed A Girl in order to gain popularity and notoriety through implied lesbianism. That’s the idea behind her single I Wish I Was Gay.

Is this song sound as bad as many of our other WoM winners? No but the lyrics and message of the song doesn’t do it any favours. When a song has absolutely no meaning to the singer except money in the bank, you can’t take it seriously as a listener. The main message of the song is “I’d rather be a lesbian because it’s easier than trying to make a committed relationship with a man work.” The message of the music video isn’t so much harmful as nonsensical. She does a burlesque show and lap dance for her soon-to-be ex-boyfriend to punish him for cheating on her… So I guess this means that a raging case of blue balls is punishment for cheating? That and shaving his thighs. Makes perfect sense.

So congrats, Jessica. You’ve won the prestigious Worst of Music award for this week.
