There comes a point in some artists’ careers when their style outweighs their substance but the substance is enough to make them chart toppers. Take my campaign earlier this year against the Black Eyed Peas who haven’t put out a good song since 2006. This week’s Worst of Music winning artist really hasn’t put out what I’d call a good song since 2008. Edge of Glory was okay but that was definitely only written to sell to sports networks for video packages. I guess that just gave away this week’s WoM winner. It’s Lady Gaga’s new single You And I.

The first sign of style over substance is the umlaut over the “u” so the song isn’t really “You And I” but “Yoü And I.” The second sign of style over substance is the ridiculous music video which features Lady Gaga dressed as a man. While the song is very different from the usual Lady Gaga fare, it sounds very generic. If you were to hear it on the radio, it wouldn’t feel out of place on the top 40 station, the country station or an easy listening station.

So congrats, Lady Gaga. You’ve won the prestigious Worst of Music award for this week.
