Join The Lowdown Blog Fantasy Basketball Pool

With the NHL’s players and owners locked in a bitter labour dispute with no end in sight, we’re turned to a different league to give us our fantasy sports fix for the winter. That’s why we’ve launched our first fantasy basketball league. There are 16 spots in the league and it’s a public pool so anyone can join which means spaces will go quickly. It’s a head-to-head league with the winner of each match-up based on winning the most of the nine categories (Points, Blocks, Steals, Assists, Rebounds, FG%, FT%, 3P%, Double-Doubles). F1 Korean GP: Looking For A Three-Peat

In the two races since the European portion of the season ended, Sebastian Vettel has dominated proceedings. So it wasn’t much of a surprise that Vettel took his third-straight race victory. His win and Alonso’s third place finish has given the twice-defending champion the lead in the World Drivers’ Championship. Sunday Link-Off: The Dangers of Stardom

By our standards from the last couple of months, today’s linkdump is fairly light on politics. That doesn’t mean that we don’t have some interesting links for you to peruse. In keeping with changing things up a bit, let’s start with Romanian model Andreea Mantea who makes her first appearance on the blog.

Last week saw the American Vice Presidential candidate debate. The pundits, at least the unbiased ones, all give the win to Joe Biden. (Daily Kos)

Entertainment Link-Off: TKO

Danger, Will Robinson! I’ve drawn in to cover the entertainment and pop culture beat for Jackie. This actually seems like an interesting weekend for films with three big new releases. Ben Affleck’s Argo is about a recently declassified CIA operation but I can’t see anyone but the critics loving it. Seven Psychopaths would be my choice for the weekend because you can never get too much Walken and Harrelson. Unfortunately, the top new film at the box office will likely be Here Comes The Boom starring Kevin James. I doubt it’ll be two hours of Kevin James getting his ass kicked so I’m unlikely to find much enjoyment from the film. However, it does also star Salma Hayek. Small victory, I suppose. Esquire definitely likes their buzz. In April, they held an online bracket poll to determine the hottest woman of 2012. In October, they name a sexiest woman alive. Sounds like the same thing to me but doing it twice helps you sell more magazines and get more traffic. Anyway, they named Mila Kunis the sexiest woman alive. I don’t agree but it was probably more about business than accuracy.

F1 Power Rankings: Korean Grand Prix

In less than 15 seconds of last week’s Japanese Grand Prix, Fernando Alonso’s championship lead was cut from 29 points to 4 over Sebastian Vettel. With Vettel having the superior car, it seems that Alonso will need more luck than skill to have a shot at the World Drivers’ Championship. Has anyone ever suggested that a championship is out of reach for a driver despite still leading the points? Anyway, it’s time for this week’s edition of the Formula One Power Rankings. Wednesday Link-Off: Turkey Day Hangover

It was a slow news weekend thanks to the Columbus Day holiday in America and Thanksgiving in Canada. However, we still have enough for a linkdump. First, since it was Canadian Thanksgiving on Monday, let’s start with Canadian model Rachelle Goulding.

When a respected business publication like Bloomberg questions a party’s supposed fiscal conservatism, it’s time to question what that party actually stands for. They’ve found that the Republicans aren’t actually as fiscally responsible as they claim. (Bloomberg)

Mass Effect 3 Retaliation DLC: The Complete Breakdown

Last Thursday, BioWare announced the release of the new Retaliation multiplayer DLC for Mass Effect 3. While it had a nice sizzle reel and listed new enemies, characters, equipment, updated maps and more, it was definitely lacking in detail of what was in the pack. We’ve been perusing the internet and have compiled a detailed breakdown of everything that is confirmed as part of the DLC and all the leaked info about the DLC that BioWare isn’t telling you.
