Entertainment Link-Off: I Am the Law!

After a few dull weekends at the theatres, there are finally a few interesting things to check out. The noteworthy release is the latest attempt at adapting Judge Dredd. The film Dredd stars Karl Urban and Olivia Thirlby. The latter should be a good enough reason for you to check out the film in theatres anyway.

The Best of Barrett-Jackson Las Vegas 2012

Barrett-Jackson only runs four of its world-famous collector car auctions each year. The final auction is one of its newer ones. This week is Barrett-Jackson’s Las Vegas auction which appropriately takes place on The Strip at the Mandalay Bay Resort. Every year, millions of people drop billions of dollars in casinos looking to win the big jackpot. At Barrett-Jackson, car buyers will spend millions of dollars hoping to hit the jackpot by buying the car of their dreams or a collector car that will increase in value. There Is No Right Side In The 2012 NHL Lockout

In 2004, it was clear to the fans that the NHL wasn’t going to survive as it was without a decrease in spending on player salaries. After locking out the year for a league, the NHL got a salary cap that gave players a maximum of 57% of hockey-related revenues which resulted in a salary rollback of 24%.

Seven years after the first lockout ended, we’re basically back where we started. The owners say they are losing money and need to cut spending. The players aren’t willing to rollback their salaries again given that the NHL is going through a period of record revenues.

With both sides claiming that the other side is plenty rich enough, we’ve reached another impasse and another lockout. Unlike the last lockout, no one side is right and no one side is wrong. Everyone has played a part in arriving at the latest NHL lockout. Continue reading →

F1 Power Rankings: Singapore Grand Prix

With seven races left in the 2012 Formula One World Championship, the F1 travelling circus has left Europe for races in Asia, the Middle East and the Americas. The first race of the home stretch is under the lights on the streets of Singapore. McLaren have won the last three races, including at the slow and slippery Hungaroring. However, the three street races so far have been split between McLaren, Red Bull and Ferrari. So who is looking strongest heading into this weekend’s race? Continue reading →

Wednesday Link-Off: Foot In Mouth… Again

If you’re reading this, you’ve survived half a week without NHL hockey thanks to that moronic lockout (though both sides are being ridiculous). You’ve also managed to get through the latest political BS in the US Presidential election. To take your mind off all this, here’s up and coming model Cameron Russell.

If the Libya gaffe wasn’t bad enough, could his anti-47% position finally finish off Mitt Romney? (Mother Jones) The question now becomes if anyone not planning to vote for Obama in the 47% recognize that they’re in the 47% and change their vote because Romney isn’t interesting helping them.

The Romney campaign isn’t just splintering in front of our eyes but behind the scenes. There’s a lot of blame going around for why the campaign is faltering. (Politico)

It’s time for all the news that’s not fit for print. It’s time for the Not News of the Week.

Sometimes, it’s best to leave well enough alone. That’s not the case if you’re the owner of an Ottawa restaurant. The owner of Mambo Nuevo Latino was none too pleased that a customer gave her restaurant a negative review so she sent emails to the reviewer’s bosses and created an online dating profile. Both the emails and profile mentioned that the reviewer was into anything, including couples, threesomes and group sex. The email included the line: “Am especially into transsexuals and transgenders (being one myself ).” That’s one way to get back at online reviews. If it wasn’t libel, I’d suggest bloggers should try this with moronic commenters. Continue reading →

I didn’t realize until yesterday that I’m a bit behind on writing posts for the upcoming week. We’ve got F1 Power Rankings and a Barrett-Jackson preview later this week.
