Sunday Link-Off: The Great Debates

In our ongoing mission to bring more beautiful Canadians to your attention, here’s Canadian model Rachelle Goulding.

Forbes put together its annual list of the richest athletes in the world. To no one’s surprise, boxing biggest big fight dodger is #1. He might be the champ here but, just like his boxing titles, he’s just a paper champ until he faces Pacquiao. (Forbes)

Whether intentional or not, the WWE is creating a 21st Century version of Miss Elizabeth with AJ. (Grantland)

Steroids as a means of doping horses is no longer the only way to make horses run faster. Now, horses are licking frogs. No, that’s not a typo. (New York Times)

After the jump, ESPN is trying to kill us all, Sorkin on Sorkin and a collection of supercut videos. Continue reading

Entertainment Link-Off: Rewriting History

In theatres this weekend, Pixar has another animated feature to unleash in the film Brave. Perhaps that Pixar magic is starting to lose its touch since the film has failed to achieve a tomatometer greater than 90% fresh. Anyway, on a non-family friendly look, there’s the twisted faux biopic Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter. The film also stars Mary Elizabeth Winstead, so let’s start it all off with her.

After the jump, Spider-Man is doing alright, a few new trailers to check out, Transformers 4 will be scaled down a bit and Gary Oldman wants sports athletes to stay away from making movies. Continue reading

Caption This: June 16 – 22, 2012

Inspired by the Globe and Mail’s caption writing person, we waste our time writing funny picture captions for some of the more interesting photos we come across when blogging. So here are some of the best pictures from the past week with a funny (-ish) caption. Continue reading

BioWare Officially Announces Mass Effect 3 Extended Cut

Seemingly out of nowhere, BioWare officially announced the upcoming release of the Mass Effect 3 Extended Cut DLC which will be available for download on June 26th (this coming Tuesday). This is the much-anticipated updated ending to ME3 announced in April after fans complained about the lack of closure and plot holes contained in the ending of Mass Effect 3 that shipped with on the game disc.

After the jump, we have all of the official details from BioWare and our analysis. Continue reading

Steve’s Ridiculous 2012 NHL Entry Draft Predictions

As is my annual tradition here on the blog, I make completely outlandish predictions as to what will happen at the NHL Entry Draft in my role as the blog’s NHL Outsider. Let’s face it, the experts are just making an educated guess as to what happen based on logic. Fans of many teams will know that logic and common sense are a very, very small part of the decision making process of your typical NHL GM.

Hit the jump for my predicted top ten in this year’s NHL draft. Continue reading

F1 Power Rankings: European Grand Prix

Over a three race stretch, the 2012 Formula One World Championship went from the historic street circuit in Monaco to the exciting and unpredictable street circuit in Montreal to the dreadfully boring streets of Valencia for the European Grand Prix. The streets around Valencia’s harbour and America’s Cup port were probably selected to mimic the harbour atmosphere of Monaco. Unfortunately, Monaco is a challenging and historic track. Valencia is boring enough to help even the worst insomniac. Perhaps the combination of Pirelli tyres and DRS could save this race. Continue reading

Wednesday Link-Off: The Long Reads

Let’s not waste any time kicking off the post. Here’s Kate Upton. The photograph was taken by Terry Richardson who is still one of the creepiest looking guys I’ve ever seen.

Last November, NBC’s Bob Costa interviewed Jerry Sandusky after he was charged with child molestation. Now, the prosecution is considering entering the full interview transcript into evidence. That full interview went 36 minutes instead of just the 8 that aired. (The Centre Daily Times)

An unnamed athlete’s PR guy talks about his job of lying to everyone to protect his client’s name. (Deadspin) One of the commenter’s put it right when he said that the PR guy happily taking the money to lie sounds like the man lying to himself.

I’m legitimately excited that Microsoft has a near ultrabook level tablet coming out this fall with the Surface for Windows 8 Pro (which will likely get shortened to “Surface Pro”). Here’s a hands-on look at the upcoming Surface. (Engadget)

After the jump, the odd sports moments of the week, Arsenio is coming back and nobody likes Mr. Worf. Continue reading

The Best of Barrett-Jackson Orange County 2012

This week is the world-famous Barrett-Jackson Collector Car Auction in Orange County, California. The Barrett-Jackson Orange County auction is the most recent addition to the Barrett-Jackson auction circuit. While there aren’t as many cars (or as high prices) as the massive Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale auction, that doesn’t mean it isn’t a proper man’s weekend where guys go to drool over what basically is automotive erotica. So to celebrate California’s biggest collector car show where the cars and not the manufacturers are the stars, here are ten of my favourite cars available in this weekend’s auction. 24 Hours of Le Mans: Diesel-Electric Boogaloo

Heading into the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the most hotly anticipated battle was between Audi and Toyota to determine who would be the first hybrid car to win the famed endurance race. Unfortunately for Toyota, the battle never materialized. As the hybrid Audi R18s stormed off into the distance, both Toyotas collided with traffic resulting in abrupt ends to their challenge.

In the other classes, attrition and luck seemed to the biggest factors behind the GTE category outcomes. The AF Corse Ferrari 458 was the last of many cars to lead the race in GTE but it’s the last car to lead the race is the most important. While Corvette couldn’t keep it together in GTE Pro, the Larbre Competition operated Corvette C6 was able to pick up the win in GTE Am. In LMP2, the rookie entrant Starworks Motorsport backed up their in their maiden 12 Hours of Sebring with a class win in Le Mans. Continue reading

Sunday Link-Off: Changes

I really don’t have anything witty to start off today’s linkdump with. Maybe I should get some more sleep. Screw it. Sleep is for the week! Anyway, here’s Gio Ott in her first appearance on the blog.

You’d think that two years of unemployment would make people reexamine themselves but it’s not always the case. Jay Mariotti is still Jay Mariotti and that means he likely won’t be finding steady employment any time soon. (Deadspin)

GoDaddy is going to completely overhaul its marketing strategy. That means they’ll be dropping the “racy” commercials and de-emphasizing the GoDaddy girls. (The Daly Planet)

The 24 Hours of Le Mans is this weekend. There are a few interesting storylines. There’s the hybrid battle between Audi and Toyota. There’s also the futuristic looking Delta Wing which is trying to achieve the same speed as the Prototype 2 category with half the power, half the weight and half the drag using half the fuel. How difficult would it be to build one of those cars? Top Gear Magazine tried making their own. (Jalopnik)

After the jump, insane Japanese wrestling, the forces behind Star Wars 1313 and some late night hilarity. Continue reading
