Wednesday Link-Off: Super Wednesday

It’s the middle of the week which means it’s time for some more links. After yesterday’s Swimsuit Issue post, it’s only appropriate that I lead off with Canadian actress Jessica Pare. I figured I should mix things up.

CNBC sports business reporter was in Indianapolis for the Super Bowl. He also demonstrated his inexplicably large ego and poor judgement when he blasted the Playboy Playmates at Playboy’s party on Twitter. Then everyone fought back. (The Big Lead)

And if you think Rovell is bad at the Playboy Party, you should see him at the dry cleaner. (Food Court Lunch)

Also of note from the Super Bowl is MIA inexplicably flipping off the camera. But just how did the middle finger become such a profane gesture. (BBC)

After the jump, football’s new power couple, Apple’s not-so-private security force and Kimmel’s Super Bowl experiment. Continue reading

Coming Soon: The Hottest Canadian 2012 Bracket

We’re about one month away from the start of March Madness. While we all know about the basketball tournament that got the name March Madness, scads of bloggers also do their own brackets. However, over the last few years, I’ve noticed a shocking lack of Madness brackets dedicated to Canadian women.

That brings us to today. We’re taking charge with our own Hottest Canadian bracket. And we want help from our readers to pick our 64 woman field and rank them. Give us your top five Canadian women and we’ll have a bracket for you for March Madness. Continue reading

SI Swimsuit 2012 Cover Odds

One of the great perks that comes with a Sports Illustrated subscription is getting the mid-winter classic known as the SI Swimsuit Issue. Last summer, models were secretly whisked off to tropical locales all over the world and photographed in complete secrecy… Well, at least when Twitter and Facebook didn’t give us sneak peaks of what to expect. Anyway, shrouded in even more secrecy is the identity of the magazine’s cover model. Being the SI Swimsuit cover model is probably the highest honour that can be bestowed on a model. It comes with instant celebrity, international recognition, a blogosphere presence for life and a blown-up copy of your cover on the Wall of Morale in the Dan Patrick Show man cave.

So who are we tipping to be on the cover of the 49th edition of the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue? Find out after the jump. Continue reading

Worst of Music: Madonna – Give Me All Your Luvin’

Over the last 72 or so hours, Madonna has played the Super Bowl halftime show and released a new single. It’s only appropriate that I give her latest comeback the recognition it deserves. That’s why the winner of this week’s Worst of Music award is Madonna with her new single Give Me All Your Luvin’. Continue reading

Wallpapers of the Week: February 5, 2012

I like changing up my desktop wallpaper on a regular basis. My wallpaper at work is even a slideshow so I have a new wallpaper every thirty minutes to change things up ever so slightly. So to help you change things up for your work week, I’ve scoured Flickr for five Super Bowl wallpapers that are worth adding to your collection for this week. Continue reading

Sunday Link-Off: Super Sunday

It’s not just any Sunday today. It’s Super Bowl Sunday. That means we’re going to waste over ten hours watching pre-game, actual game, halftime and post-game coverage of a football game. It all seems to be a bit of a waste, doesn’t it? Anyway, let’s kick off the links with alleged former NFL WAG Kate Upton. She almost admitted to having that fling with Sanchez. We’ll all have the last laugh because he’ll be out of the league when his contract with the Jets expires.

Since it’s Super Bowl Sunday, why not feature a breakdown of which championship trophies are the best. (GQ)

Daulerio may have left Deadspin but that doesn’t mean his contributing his classic Daulerio-esque stories after the fact. This week, he brought us the tale of one of Yankees GM Brian Cashman’s mistresses. (Deadspin)

The US would like to remind you that they’ve declared themselves supreme rulers of the internet. They’ve spent the last week shutting down sports streaming websites. (Sports Grid)

After the jump, more on the Super Bowl, a look at horrible reality TV and Bill Murray does Letterman while wearing a Giants jersey. Continue reading

Entertainment Link-Off: With Great Power…

At the box office this weekend, there’s the found-footage flick about teenagers with superpowers in Chronicle. There’s also a solid ghost movie The Woman in Black starring Harry… I mean Daniel Radcliffe. Finally, there’s the family flick Big Miracle. Nothing particularly special about that one, but at least Kristen Bell is in it!

After the jump, a bit more on Chronicle, a brand new trailer for The Hunger Games, Katy Perry wants to do a 3D concert film and a whole bunch of Youtube videos including a look at the death of Superman, the new Volkswagon Superbowl spot, The Rock playing a ukelele, the definition of “swog” and a new web series from Wong Fu Productions. Caption This: January 28 – February 3, 2012

Inspired by the Globe and Mail’s caption writing person, we waste our time writing funny picture captions for some of the more interesting photos we come across when blogging. So here are some of the best pictures from the past week with a funny (-ish) caption. Continue reading

The Super Bowl and Beer (Infographic)

There aren’t many party days bigger than Super Bowl Sunday. There are big parties, vast quantities of food eaten and, of course, even more vast quantities of alcohol drunk. For the football fan, beer is the beverage of choice. Approximately 50 million cases of beer (for about 1,200,000,000 bottles/cans of beer) will be consumed on Sunday.

For a breakdown of what will be drunk and how much will be spent (among other interesting tidbits), we have an infographic about beer and the Super Bowl after the jump. Continue reading

WWE Royal Rumble 2012 Review

Every year, the Road To WrestleMania starts with the battle for a world title shot in the Royal Rumble. In a return to tradition, 30 men did battle in the over-the-top-rope battle royal for the honour of main eventing WrestleMania. Not to be overshadowed were two world title matches which helped set the stage for the biggest pay-per-view of the year. Continue reading
