Today is the start of another season of OUA football action. Last year, we saw the season conclude with a final second field goal giving the Western Mustangs the Yates Cup at the hands of the Ottawa Gee-Gees. This year’s OUA battle looks to be wide-open but the picture will become a little clearer starting this afternoon with the first slate of OUA football games for 2011. Continue reading

Sunday Link-Off: Summer Sizzler
It’s time for the Sunday links right before Labour Day. And since you can’t wear white after Labour Day (or something like that), here’s Kate Winslet wearing white.
Last week, we looked at how to pair wine with food. Well, you can also pair beer with food. (Wall Street Journal)
If you want to watch the next Yankees/Red Sox game, I’d think about skipping the beer and go for coffee instead. These two teams officially play baseball’s most inexplicably long games. (New York Times)
Fred Taylor signed a one-day contract with Jacksonville so he could retire a Jaguar. But how exactly does a one-day contract work? Barry Petchesky investigates the answer to a question I’ve never heard anyone ask. After reading this, you’ll wonder why nobody asked before. (Deadspin)
After the jump, who you’ll meet in university, how Vince McMahon’s money can actually save wrestling, and Clarkson talks about Halo. Continue reading
Entertainment Link-Off: Blockbusted
Uh oh. I’ve drawn in on the entertainment beat for Jackie. We’re all in trouble now. To make up for my interpretation of an entertainment linkdump, here’s Angela Sarafyan who stars in A Good Old Fashioned Orgy which debuts this weekend.
Writer/blogger extraordinaire Drew Magary (who is regularly linked in my linkdumps) gives his take on movie star and director clichés and how they’re always trying to seem higher brow than they actually are. (The Projector)
After the jump, the summers biggest flops, Mr. Kim Kardashian meets the man who made her famous and Captain Planet is back, bitches. Continue reading
The Humanoids: Guide to O-Week 2011
It’s that time of year again for the soon-to-be denizens of The University of Western Ontario. Time to load up the overly expensive SUVs and move into residence for their first year at UWO. That means Frosh Week is here again. Of course, the frosh don’t have much of an idea of what they’re in for over the next stretch. Having done this once before and witnessing it on three more occasions, I think I have a handle on what’s important for the frosh to know as they head to London and UWO. Continue reading
Man Lab: Labor Day Barbecue Cooking
It’s Labor Day weekend here in North America. That means we have one last chance to fire up the grill before cold weather sweeps in. So we’ve turned to the crew at the Man Lab kitchen to help you out with your Labor Day barbecue. Sometimes, food isn’t about getting you laid. It can also be about good eats. So here are some Man Lab approved recipes for Labor Day. And, yes, you can make dessert on the grill. Continue reading
Man Lab Link-Off: Highway To The Friend Zone
It’s another set of Man Lab links. Let’s give this linkdump a Canadian flavour to kick things off. Here’s Canadian model Kim Cloutier. The fact that she was only in the SI Swimsuit Issue once is their loss.
Somehow, Kim was left off another typically confusing hottest women list. This one is by Men’s Health. While some of the rankings are confusing, I’m not particularly upset with #1. (Men’s Health)
After the jump, how to know if you’re going to the friend zone, how to use the internet for dating and VSX. Continue reading
OUA Gameday: 2011 Season Preview
The 2011 OUA football season kicks off with a full slate of games on Monday. This season, ten teams battle for the 104th Yates Cup thanks to the return of the Waterloo Warriors after a season-long program suspension. The Western Mustangs took home their 29th Yates Cup last season but the loss of key players means that it’s wide-open at the top of the OUA. Continue reading
