Royal Rumble 2011 Review

Every year, the thirty man over-the-top-rope battle royal known as the Royal Rumble kicks off the Road to WrestleMania. This year, the WWE changed it up as 40 men did battle for a shot at the world title. But that wasn’t the only match on the card as three titles were on the line earlier in the night. Find out how well the biggest Rumble in history and the rest of the action played out after the jump. Continue reading

Guilty Until Proven Innocent: How TV Forces the End of Jury Trials

It’s not often I go into heavy stuff like this but reading an article about a brewing scandal in Formula One got me thinking about trials. The article made note of the fact that the law says that all people are considered innocent until proven guilty. But I think that the idea that people are always considered innocent until a judge or jury of their peers says otherwise has become antiquated and no longer holds true in modern society. I think that TV crime dramas and the 24/7 news media obsession with crime stories means that most people think that a person must be guilty if the police have charged them. I think that means we should soon see the end of jury trials in our innocent until proven guilty society. Continue reading

Super Bowl XLV Facts and Figures

It’s game day! We’re just a few hours away from Super Bowl 45 at the house that Jerry built, Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas. To help you get set for the big game, here are some of the outlandish fact and numbers about the Super Bowl. Continue reading

Super Bowl 45 Link-Off

It’s Super Bowl Sunday, people! I’m not necessarily cheering for the Packers but Jaime Edmondson would make me consider it.

On Super Bowl Sunday, it’s only appropriate that we run this lengthy profile of NFL commissioner Roger Goodell. (Sports Illustrated)

Ever wonder how that yellow first down line gets on the field for football TV broadcasts? Here’s a look at the technology at work. (Mental Floss)

Ever wonder what the week leading up to the Super Bowl is like for the players? Here’s a first-hand account of a player’s experience at the Super Bowl party scene. (Deadspin)

After the jump, the worst half-time show ever, what will Madden do and Super Bowl ad madness. Continue reading

Sunday Link-Off: Desire

We’re doing two sets of links today so there’s plenty of football still to come. For now, let’s start off with Kate Upton. If you haven’t heard of her before, you’ll hear a lot more from her soon, I think.

Time for AskMen’s annual list of the 99 most desirable women. Blake Lively is #1 this year. She’s good looking but “most desirable?” Not sold on that. (AskMen)

And from the desirable to the undesirables. Here’s Deadspin’s list of the worst men in sports. (Deadspin)

Maybe combining both of the above is Mickey Mantle. When asked by the New York Yankees what his favourite memory of Yankee Stadium was, he provided an amazing NSFW answer for the ages. (Letters of Note)

After the jump, Brian Wilson craziness, great play-by-play moments and the most illegal thing ever in professional wrestling. Continue reading

Idea to Make the Super Bowl More Interesting: Gambling!

Betting on the Super Bowl

People who gamble on the NHL All-star game and NFL Pro Bowl are probably people who should check into an addiction therapy center, if you lose. I brilliantly took Team Lidstrom and the over in the All-star game (you knew Toews and Thomas were going to try because they are too competitive) and the NFC and the over in the Pro Bowl (no one tries in this game but Vick, Ryan, and Brees have way more natural skill than Cassell and Peyton wasn’t going to try) and won all four bets. Thus I have a little extra money to gamble on Super Bowl prop bets for the big game on Sunday. So here are 5 great prop and otherwise bets and 7 fun/I have a gambling problem bets that I will be wagering on this weekend.

The thing about prop bets is that more often than not you’re going to lose money on them but you’re going to have a lot of fun cheering for them to happen during the game so I wouldn’t gamble too heavily on them but a little money goes along way to having fun. All lines and bets can be found on http://www.sportsbook.com and try to enjoy yourself this weekend watching the Super Bowl with ignorant non-football fans who are more excited about the half time show or even worse the commercials. There is something a little sick about cheering for good advertising as if it is a luxury. Good advertising should be the standard not the exception. Anyway… Continue reading

Entertainment Link-Off: Get A Room

I’ve drawn in for the entertainment links this week. Since Jackie likes to lead off with someone relevant in his links, here’s Minka Kelly who’s starring in The Roommate. Even the commercials make that movie look Razzie-worthy.

It seems that all TV shows now live and die by the Nielsen ratings. However, these really aren’t the most accurate way to measure the popularity of shows. Here’s a look at why the Nielsen numbers are outdated and why they won’t change. (Splitsider)

After the jump, David O. Russell continuing failure with Uncharted, Bieber fever hits the NBA, and a great CSI parody. Continue reading

Epic Meal Time – The Sloppy Roethlisberger

Personally, I thought that last week’s Epic Meal Time Super Bowl special was a bit underwhelming. Then they came back with the most epic of epic Super Bowl meals. It’s 20 pounds of bacon, 13 pounds of ground beef and 11 pounds of sausage in a 10 pound bun. Top it with tons of cheese and Jack Daniels BBQ sauce and you have the 50 pound, 138,226 calorie Sloppy Big Ben Roethlisberger. Continue reading

Formula One: 2011 Valencia Test Recap

The first day of February brought an end to the moratorium on Formula One testing. All twelves teams took to the track for the first group test of the season. Not all team ran their 2011 car or even their most up to date aerodynamic packages but there are a few takeaways from the first test fo the 2011 season. Continue reading

Fight Song Battle – Black & Yellow vs. Green & Yellow

I’ve seen people around the internet compare the WAGs of Super Bowl 45 and certain players’ hair. Now, Lil Wayne has given us another point to compare the Pittsburgh Steelers and Green Bay Packers: Fight songs. Yesterday, Lil Wayne dropped Green and Yellow, a Packers-centric cover of Black and Yellow by Wiz Khalifa. Black and Yellow itself is now the Steelers’ fight song. So let’s put these songs head-to-head in a fight song rap battle of Super proportions. Continue reading
