Provisional 2011 Formula One Schedule Announced

Yesterday, the FIA announced their provisional schedule for the 2011 Formula One World Championship. The season is being lengthened by one race to 20 Grands Prix because of the addition of the Indian Grand Prix. The rest of the events from this year’s calendar return, though some of their dates have been shuffled. Continue reading

The Never Ending Demotivator

Demotivational posters are one of the great never-ending memes on the internet. But what happens when an example of the never-ending meme becomes a never-ending meme unto itself. A demotivator saying “OPPS!” got a series of demotivational responses that became a chain of over forty demotivators. The only thing that makes this better is the fact that somebody took the entire series of demotivators and turned them into this great GIF image. Continue reading

Formula One: No 13th Team (or Common Sense) for 2011

The long awaited announcement of who would take up the 13th grid slot in Formula One for the 2011 was as big a disappointment as US F1’s attempts to make the grid. The FIA has decided not to grant any of the applicants an entry into Formula One making this whole effort much ado about nothing. While Formula One tries to grow, the FIA’s red tape ties it down. Wednesday Link-Off: The Best And Worst

To kick off this edition of the Wednesday linkdump, here’s Bond girl Olga Kurylenko.

The latest NHL games hit shelves this week. EA Sports’ NHL 11 is the only game on PS3 and 360 so I’m not linking to those reviews. However, 2K is releasing NHL 2K11 exclusively for the Wii. (Kotaku) Meanwhile, EA has their own Wii exclusive NHL release with Wayne Gretzky starring in NHL Slapshot (with hockey stick peripheral) for the Wii. (IGN)

Nokia’s promotion for its latest phone gives you a chance to star in a short film with Pamela Anderson. The joke just writes itself on this one. (Gizmodo) Okay, I’ll bite. You’ll join Tommy Lee and Vince Neil in the ranks of co-stars in Pam Anderson short films.

And a blogger says that Albert Pujols’ head is getting bigger. What is he hinting at? (Midwest Sports Fan) In fairness to Jerod, he’s not the one doing the hinting this time.

After the jump, the worst IndyCar driver of all time, the return of Kimbo Slice, and a football promo that’s not a trap. Continue reading

Lowdown BlogCast Classic: September 16, 2008

With frosh week officially kicking off yesterday at UWO, I thought it was appropriate to bust out this classic Lowdown radio show episode. The show starts with Steve and Jackie discussing sports as the show gets out of the block backwards. Talk moves on to the news with the beginning of our infamous “I was on the internet this week” gags. The news includes a man who robbed a 7-Eleven with a unique getaway vehicle and a Muslim man with 86 wives. In the entertainment news, the guys look at McFly’s and Metallica’s new singles in the short-lived duelling singles of the week and look at some of the TV premieres that were upcoming. The feature interview was a look at political spin with award-winning author and politics journalist Judah Freed. That’s appropriate now with the possibility of an upcoming federal election. The show wraps up with Steve touring buildings on the UWO campus that frosh weren’t likely to go to including the Law Building, the D.B. Wheldon Library, the Ivey Business School, and the Thompson Engineering Building. He even managed to get a sneak peak at the then under construction Campus Recreation Centre.

Not News of the Week

It’s that time of week again. It’s all the news that’s not fit for print. It’s the Not News of the Week.

Everything is bigger in Texas and that includes their culinary daring when it comes to deep-fried foods. A man with a set up at the Texas State Fair is adding two very unique products to his menu. He’s now selling deep-fried beer and deep-fried frozen margaritas. The deep-fried beer is a beer-filled pretzel dough square. When you bite into it, the beer pours out. The deep-fried frozen margarita is a funnel cake batter mixed with tequila, dusted with margarita mix and served in a salt-rimmed plastic glass. You need to be over 21 to order them and it’ll take more than a few to even give you a buzz. Continue reading

Formula One 2013: What The Future Could Be

Autosport recently revealed some of the likely technical specifications for F1 starting in 2013. The cars look to be getting a complete overhaul as the rumour is that cars will be allowed to use the underbody of the cars to generate downforce (also called ground effect downforce) and with 1.6-litre turbocharged four cylinder engines. However, I think that F1 has missed a chance to make itself more relevant to motor industry and get some manufacturers back into the sport.

My proactive solution to the road F1 is planning to go down is after the jump. Continue reading

Sunday Link-Off: Full Speed Ahead

Let’s start off with Olivia Munn who has a new sitcom on NBC this fall. More on that in our next Lowdown BlogCast.

The 2010-11 NFL season kicks off on Thursday. So have you ever wondered how your favourite team got its nickname. Here’s the story behind all 32 teams. (Mental Floss)

With the NFL season comes another interesting point. Sports today just don’t seem as good as they were when I was growing up. And here are five reasons that they won’t be as good for my (eventual) kids. (Smoking Section)

Top Gear USA is coming very soon to the History Channel. The latest released clip looks more promising than the last. (Jalopnik) Maybe that CBC Radio show I was listening to should have watched this clip too (or maybe an episode) before writing the show off as a definite failure.

After the jump, the KHL’s best goalie masks, The Situation’s ridiculous salary, and Bollywood’s greatest action scene ever. Continue reading

Entertainment Link-Off: Settling A Score

It’s September already?! Time certainly flies. So now that the summer burn-offs are out of the way, there’s finally a few movies to go see at the theatres again! Most notable one is the action throwback movie Machete starring Danny Trejo. He might not be the eye candy you’re looking for, but he does make a badass action hero. Speaking of eye candy, Jessica Alba is in this movie!

After the jump, a look at a Tron theme park, something that will help you understand Inception better, James Cameron fights off Piranhas, some love for Scott Pilgrim in the UK and watch out for a Hobo with a Shotgun. Continue reading

The Humanoids: Guide to O-Week 2010

It’s that time of year again for the soon-to-be denizens of The University of Western Ontario. Time to load up the overly expensive SUVs and move into residence for their first year at UWO. That means Frosh Week is here again. Of course, the frosh don’t have much of an idea of what they’re in for over the next stretch. Having done this once before and witnessing it on three more occasions, I think I have a handle on what’s important for the frosh to know as they head to London and UWO. Continue reading
