Entertainment Link-Off: It Was All A Dream

Inception is finally out this weekend! I’m sure there are plenty of folks intrigued by the trailers and all the buzz surrounding the film, but if you’re still not interested, here are two reasons why you should go: Ellen Page and Marion Cotillard.

After the jump, a few more Inception related links, Tron Legacy gets the Pixar touch, several first looks at upcoming films, Shaq takes on Justin Bieber, Steve Carrell makes a big decision and the return of McFly!!! Continue reading

The Humanoids: Ball

It’s a tough week here on The Humanoids. A lot of serious things are happening. Mel Gibson exposed himself (well, was exposed) as racist waste of blood and organs. Prince abandoned the internet. And the government spent a million dollars to bring a TV show to PEI for a couple days. On the flip side, we have John Daly’s paisley pants. And who doesn’t paisley… besides anybody with sight. Continue reading

Video Game Review: Green Day: Rock Band

The fifth installment in the Rock Band series and second in the band-focused editions of the game feels like the series is getting back to its roots. After producing a family oriented game in Lego Rock Band and one about one of the greatest bands of all-time in The Beatles: Rock Band, Harmonix is going back to rock music with Green Day: Rock Band. Continue reading

Wednesday Link-Off: Boss

A couple of weeks back, I had the return of Danielle Hilliard. Today, it’s the return of UWO cheerleader Ellyn D’Uva.

Did you ever hear about the man who made a perfect big on a Showcase on The Price is Right? Here’s the behind the scenes story from contestants’ row and behind the camera. (Esquire)

As you’ve likely heard, George Steinbrenner died yesterday. Here’s the New York Times’ obituary of the famed Yankee owner. (New York Times)

And here’s a more personal remembrance of The Boss. Here’s the tales of a former Yankees intern who met Steinbrenner. (Sparty & Friends)

After the jump, some World Cup followup, Canseco’s return, and more Ellyn D’Uva. Continue reading

Movie Review: Predators

Since its introduction in 1987, Predator has become a great pop-culture flick for sci-fi action. Thanks to its box office success, it has spawned a 1990 sequel starring Danny Glover and set in L.A. which was a dud. With the film franchise seemingly dead,  two “crossover” Alien vs. Predator flicks were released to boost interest but they just made things worse. Predators is indeed better than Predator 2 and the two AVPs; however since those films set the bar pretty low, that’s not saying much. Is this movie finally worth the price of an admission ticket? Find out after the jump. Continue reading

Not News of the Week

It’s that time of week again. It’s all the news that’s not fit for print. It’s time for the Not News of the Week.

Ask any guy and they’re likely to tell you that they’d rather die than watch a Twilight movie. A man in New Zealand took this a bit too literally. A 23-year-old man was found dead following an evening screening of the new Twilight movie, Eclipse. Police aren’t immediately sure what the cause of death is but a check for fang marks, clawed scratches, and glitter turned up nothing. With any luck, they’ll ring up the producers, writers, and cast on murder charges. After all, the last two movies are definitely worth fraud and larceny charges for taking everyone’s money. Continue reading

F1 British GP: Something Old, Something New…

The old wedding adage seemed to fit perfectly for yesterday’s British Grand Prix. The irony of that statement is that the marriage at Red Bull is quickly disintegrating. But something old was Silverstone, host of the first ever round of the Formula One World Championship in 1950. Something new is the Arena Circuit layout which was designed for Moto GP and used for this year’s F1 Grand Prix. Something borrowed was Mark Webber’s front wing which was borrowed by Sebastian Vettel. And something blue was Mark Webber’s Red Bull as it streaked across the line as he took his third win of the season. Continue reading

Soccer Night in South Africa: Spain Rules The World

One game to rule the world. Spain and the Netherlands played to stand a top the world of soccer for the first time. The Netherands have missed out on two previous opportunities to win the title. Spain, the defending European champions, were in their first final at a World Cup. But only one team could raise FIFA World Cup Trophy. Continue reading

Sunday Link-Off: Unpredictable

Leading off today’s edition of the SLO is Alessandra Ambrosio.

Heading into today’s World Cup final, it looks like the players won’t be the gamebreaking factors. Adidas’ “Jabulani” football has been proven by NASA as being unpredictable. (FanHouse)

I’m not a fan of all these crazy stats invented by eggheads that try to tell us who the best players are in every sport. Fortunately, David Berri is far more eloquent in dissecting what’s wrong with these ridiculous stats. (MGoBlog)

Need a new vacation spot? Have you thought of going to lovely Lake Jonathan Toews? (Puck Daddy)

After the jump, scads of baseball links, more on King James, and Kristen Stewart is a gifted actress. Continue reading

Soccer Night In South Africa: Battle For Bronze

The sixty-third game of the 2010 World Cup may have technically been for third place in the tournament but having come so close to the title, that wasn’t the real motivator for Germany and Uruguay. This match was solely for pride. One last game and one last chance to end the tournament as a winner. After a month of pouring your heart out, pride will be all that you have left to go with the bumps and bruises. Continue reading
