Hockey Canada has unveiled the jerseys that Team Canada will don in their attempt to win gold on home turf at the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics. Hockey Canada was forced to make changes to their jersey after the IOC said that the Hockey Canada logo couldn’t be used on the Olympic jerseys. Previously, the Canadian Olympic Committee had gotten an exemption so Hockey Canada could use the logo. The 2010 jerseys are the same as the most recent Team Canada jerseys but with a new logo. I think that Hockey Canada had a golden opportunity to do something special here but they blew it. Continue reading

Wednesday Link-Off: Up To Speed
Here’s Blake Lively. If you get close enough to her to make small talk, the book is Chuck Hogan’s Prince of Thieves. You’re welcome.
TopGear.com’s American website was dropped by the BBC. As a parting “thanks, you bastards,” the editorial staff decided to play a prank on the whole of the internet (New York Times)
Speaking of Top Gear, host James May is up to no good. After making a plasticine garden and building a life-sized Lego house, he’s building a real-length race track recreation slot car track. (Daily Telegraph)
In case you were under a rock, Usain Bolt set another 100m world record. (Next Round) He was so unnaturally fast that somebody much smarter than me put together some graphs to show you how fast he is. (Science of Sports)
After the jump, the third coming of Brett Favre, more Mayfield family drama, and a very fast car races a very fast jet fighter plane. Continue reading
The Lowdown Radio – August 18th, 2009
The Lowdown was on-air tonight with the second “Previously Enjoyed” episode of 2009. This episode originally aired on January 6, 2009. That was our first episode of 2009. On tonight’s show, Steve and The Enge review Rock Band 2. Then Steve and Jackie recap the best stories of 2008 while making ridiculous predictions for 2009. They cap off the night by announcing the winners of The Lowdown Awards including the Freedom of Speech Award. Expect a lot of stockbroker bashing.

Football Night In Canada: Week 7 Wrapup
Week 7 is a critical week in the run to the Grey Cup. This is the last week before the Labour Day rivalry week that all eight teams will be in action. That means that teams on the outside looking in can make up a lot of ground before that final sprint to the playoffs. Continue reading
Not News of the Week
I may be on my way back from Michigan International Speedway but that doesn’t mean that things don’t roll along as usual. It’s time for the weird, the wacky, and the wonderful on the Not News of the Week. This week’s theme is doctors and surgery.
A British paramedic who allegedly had oral sex in a hospital parking lot while on duty claimed he was only trying to comfort a woman. That doesn’t explain why he was caught on a security camera sitting in the passenger seat of a car with a woman’s head in his lap. A hospital security guard saw the couple sitting in the car and, thinking that they were suspicious, focused a security camera on them. What he got was a 14 minute live sex show. The security guard said, “In the footage, her head does go to his lap. Her head does appear to go up and down.” The hospital’s security chief also saw the pair go at it on camera and said that it wasn’t the first time that the hospital parking lot was used for a conjugal visit. Movie Review: The Time Traveler’s Wife

As I have mentioned in the Entertainment Link-Off, the movie review is finally here.
Adapted from the 2003 best-seller by Audrey Niffenegger, The Time Traveler’s Wife is a decent romantic film that follows a star-crossed couple as they come to grips with having one of them constantly falling through a hole in the time-space continuum. Continue reading
Entertainment Link-Off: Past, Present, Future
After a slight delay (again), this week’s edition of the Entertainment Link-Off is finally here! This weekend marks the release of the highly anticipated film adaptation of the novel The Time Traveler’s Wife, hence I’m using Rachel McAdams to kick off this entry. The film was scheduled to be released last fall, but thanks to Star Trek (which is a fantastic film by the way) requiring Eric Bana to shave his head for the role Nero, the reshoots for The Time Traveler’s Wife couldn’t take place until he grew his hair back. So how was the movie? Did it remain faithful to the novel? Find out later when I post the movie review. In the meantime, let’s take a look at the happenings in film, TV and whatnot.
After the jump some Time Traveler’s Wife stuff, notes about upcoming films, Megan Fox talks about peer pressure and we find out what G.I. Joes do during their free time. Continue reading
Saturday Link-Off: The Blame Game
When in doubt, go with Megan Fox. Can you blame me?
Also, when in doubt, blame the cat. For example, a Florida man tried to use his can as a scape… cat for downloading child pornography. (The Guardian)
And when in doubt, blame Dale Earnhardt Jr. A man in what was described as Dale Jr. hat robbed a New Jersey bank. I think they’ve got the wrong man because it’s clearly a Dale Jarrett hat. Either way, I’m wearing my wallet on a chain today. (All Left Turns)
Meanwhile, celeb watchers are blaming the frosty relationship between A-Rod and Jeter for the equally as frosty relationship between their women Kate Hudson and Minka Kelly. My money is on Minka in a catfight. (The Big Lead)
After the jump, athlete failures, Nintendo failure, and vintage ECW with a chair throwing win. Continue reading
The Humanoids: At Michigan International Speedway
As you’re reading this, I’m on the tail-end of my road trip to Michigan International Speedway for the Show Me The Carfax race weekend. I should be at the track in time for Nextel Cup qualifying which I might watch from the pits and spend the next two days there for the Nationwide and Nextel Cup Series races. I’ll have a full recap next week and I’ll be tweeting from the track every now and then. Anyway, since I’m going to be at the NASCAR weekend at MIS, I figured that I would make this edition of The Humanoids all about NASCAR.
Since I have a chance, here’s your obligatory Lowdown radio update. The latest segment on the show will be “The Worst of Music.” Jackie and I will find one new piece of music to declare as the worst of music. For example, the worst thing I’ve heard over the last few weeks would be Pitbull’s I Know You Want Me. It’s a mind-numbingly bad piece of music that makes Katy Perry listenable rather than just watchable. So this and “It Came From YouTube” are making for a cramped line-up as we creep up to the Season 3 Premiere on September 15th. Continue reading
Michael Vick Signs With Philadelphia Eagles
The weeks of speculation have come to an end. Yesterday, everyone said that he was going to sign in Chicago. Earlier today, Vick was about to become a member of the Buffalo/Toronto Bills. Finally, reports have come out this evening that Michael Vick has signed with the Philadelphia Eagles. The deal has been reported to be a one-year deal with a team option for a second year. The first year of the deal is worth $1.6 million while the option year is worth $5.2 million. Continue reading
