Entertainment Link-Off: Apple of the Eye

In theatres this weekend, you can catch the CGI-heavy sequel to Clash of the Titans or perhaps check out a visually flashy and colourful children’s flick Mirror Mirror starring Lily Collins. Yeah neither sound all that appealing.

After the jump, there are a lot of unnecessary sequels out there, the apple pie gets its revenge, Kate Winslet hates the Titanic theme song, Terra Nova is dead, Tenacious D returns and some superheroes got a Lego makeover. Continue reading

Caption This: March 24 – 30, 2012

Inspired by the Globe and Mail’s caption writing person, we waste our time writing funny picture captions for some of the more interesting photos we come across when blogging. So here are some of the best pictures from the past week with a funny (-ish) caption. Continue reading

The Humanoids: TV’s Bloopers And Practical Jokes

For the first time in what seems like forever (actually, it’s only been four-and-a-half months), I’m back with a fresh edition of The Humanoids column. This week, I take a look at the sad state of TV with a couple of few TV shows I watch regularly in danger of cancellation, I examine the current state of what’s actually put in front of us on TV and who really makes network programming decisions and who influences the scripts that we see on TV every week. The Final Four of March Madness goes down on Saturday and the final is Monday night. The final will be the 67th game played in the NCAA Men’s Basketball championship tournament over the last three weeks from the first game of the First Four to the final game of the Final Four. Over that time, over $175 million worth of worker productivity was lost.

Wednesday Link-Off: Sporting Madness

Well, we’ve hit the ground running today. First, we opened up the voting on the final four of our 2012 Hottest Canadian contest. Now we have the mid-week links. And let’s kick off today’s WLO with Behati Prinsloo who you might recognize from Victoria’s Secret TV commercials.

Fifteen years ago Monday was the infamous line brawl between the Detroit Red Wings and the Colorado Avalanche. As a Wings fan, I’m obliged to lead off with this link. I’m also obliged to point out that we kicked their asses! (SportsGrid)

While this story is about the NBA, I’m sure the same principals can apply to the NHL. Is there a way to prevent teams from tanking to get the first overall draft pick? To put it another way, is there a way to disincentivize incompetent management? (True Hoop)

With Tiger Woods winning his first PGA Tour event since 2009, the only story heading into The Masters is Tiger Woods vs. Rory McIlroy. (Golf.com)

After the jump, Mike Tyson’s one man show, all about Assassin’s Creed III and they sure get excited over winning money in Australia. Continue reading

UWO Releases 2011 Sunshine List

As mandated by the Public Sector Salary Disclosure Act of 1996, you found out what most of your professors got paid for 2011 on Friday. When I went to UWO, this was one of my favourite days too. Learning stuff that doesn’t have too many practical applications in real life (for disclosure’s sake, I was in social sci) is made that much easier by knowing that someday I could teach kids nothing and get well compensated for it. F1 Malaysian GP: Slip and Slide

A race that would have been very straight forward for the McLaren if it stayed dry became an instant classic thanks to the changing conditions of the Sepang Circuit. In the end, it wasn’t the Mercedes-powered cars that led the way but the Ferraris that were in front at the end of the race. The first driver across the line was Fernando Alonso but he wasn’t the star of the race. The real hero of the day was Sergio Perez who hounded Alonso home to finish in second. Continue reading
