Wednesday Link-Off: Hurricane Speed

You won’t know it when you read it but I left this edition of the Wednesday links to the last minute. Part of the problem was picking out who to lead this post with. A lot of people were impressed with Victoria Justice at the VMAs and who am I to disappoint?

As we all know, Star Wars is coming to Blu-Ray this fall. Naturally, George Lucas is going to make some tweaks to improve the films. However, his idea of improvements are very different from rational human beings. (io9)

Hurricane Irene wasn’t really the east coast apocalypse that was predicted. Instead, people went out and had some fun. For example, Times Square was the private playground for some Canadians. (Puck Daddy)

We all think of George Carlin as an angry, profane stand-up comedian but he wasn’t always like that. Here’s a look at the evolution of his stand-up over the course of his career. (SplitSider)

After the jump, Madden fever, Beyonce nearly breaks Twitter and craptacular TV theme songs. Continue reading

Man Lab: Five Wines You Should Know

If there’s two things that we love, it’s food and drink. However, we rarely, if ever, talk about wine as a drinking option. Wine is one of those drinks that really combines food and drink because one of the great qualities of wine is the ability to pair it with food to make both together greater than the sum of their parts. The thing is that most people are a little lost when it comes to pairing their food and drink. Fortunately, the crew at AskMen have broken down five of the more common types of wines to tell you what they taste like and how to pair them. Continue reading

Worst of Music: Miley Cyrus – Smells Like Teen Spirit

The gang over at recently wrapped up their search for the worst cover song of all-time. Normally, we would expect William Shatner’s cover of Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds to take the top spot. However, the readers of Rolling Stone have found something worse to take the crown from Shatner and I don’t think the world is better for their discovery. The new #1 worst cover of all-time takes our Worst of Music award for this week. It’s Miley Cyrus doing a live cover of Nirvana’s Smells Like Teen Spirit. Continue reading

Sunday Link-Off: Laying The Smackdown

Surprisingly, Jackie didn’t lead off his ELO with a picture of a starlet from one of this weekend’s new movies. So I’ll cover that for him with Columbiana star Zoe Saldana.

If you thought The Wrestler was a fictional movie, the old and broke wrestler struggling to make ends meet is more common than you’d think. Those ranks include the legendary Nature Boy Ric Flair. (Grantland)

What happens when a Deadspin writer gets invited to ESPN’s state of the union address? Nothing good for Mr. Craggs. (Deadspin)

Speaking of the mothership, ESPN courted controversy by running an article wondering how things would be different if Michael Vick was white. In response, BSO wondered what Tom Brady would be like if he was black. (Black Sports Online)

After the jump, The Rock is ready to lay the smacketh down on NBC, food photo galleries and what happens to WWE Raw comes to Canada. Continue reading

Entertainment Link Off: Look Into My Eyes

It’s Saturday, so that means it’s time for another hit of the Entertainment Link-Off. It’s the dog days of summer at the movies and it doesn’t look like new releases would be making that big of a splash at the box office this weekend. Kicking off this entry is Rachel Nichols from her latest shoot with Maxim. Sadly despite her good looks, it hardly drew anyone to see the remake of Conan the Barbarian.

After the jump, FOX made a few mistakes, horrible movie alternate endings, Joseph Gordon-Levitt rocks out to Nirvana, a neat short based on the popular video game Portal and a new music video from singer/songwriter Marie Digby. Continue reading

Lowdown Pub Quiz: Week 3

It’s time for our third Lowdown pub quiz. In last week’s battle of wits (or in Steve’s case, half of it), Jackie narrowly edged Steve six to five to stretch his lead to four points. Can Steve get off the schneid this week and close the gap or will Jackie massacre him yet again? Hit the jump to find out. Continue reading

Best of E-Mails From An Asshole

It’s time for us to add another new website into the ever growing collection of websites in our Best of the Interweb series. Today, we have a look at E-Mails From An Asshole. This website features the email chains of one man being an asshole to people who post classified ads. This is easily one of the funniest websites on the interweb. Continue reading

F1 Power Rankings: Belgian Grand Prix

After four weeks off, the 2011 Formula One World Championship is back in full-force for the stretch run. With eight races to go, Sebastian Vettel holds an 85 point lead over teammate Mark Webber. That’s equivalent to over three race wins meaning Vettel can sit out the next three Grands Prix and still hold a 10 point lead in the championship. It looks like back-to-back titles are in the cards for Vettel but McLaren still like their chances. Continue reading

Wednesday Link-Off: Psychic Benefits

Let’s kick off these links with Chrissy Teigen who is working her magic near the stove. Did you know that she has a food blog?

As often as we link articles about how much Grantland sucks, it does occasionally come through. For example, Malcolm Gladwell finally gets his first Grantland story up about how owning an NBA team isn’t about making money so the lockout is basically pointless. (Grantland)

Is the middle class dead or is it still possible to save them? (The Atlantic)

I’m sure you’ve seen the epic brawl between Georgetown and the Chinese professional team by now. But have you seen the world’s best breakdown of the fight and its winners and losers? (SB Nation)

After the jump, hockey fight club for kids, a Dell vs. HP slap fight and Healthy Meal Time. Continue reading
